What do you guys and girls expect The ui of the switch to be like?

What I mean with this is the general look and feel.

I wish for a Mix of the vita look and feel with this certain nintendo feel, if that makes sense.

Realistically, I expect a continuity of the Wii U and 3DS design language.
I would like something more along the lines of iOS, though. And I expect multitouch for the screen.

I think with how Nintendo have been so keen to distance themselves in marketing, branding and design from the Wii and DS lines of consoles, I'm expecting the UI to do the same. By that I mean be totally different and I wouldn't be surprised if the Mii characters are sidelined either completely missing or reserved for Miiverse only.

I think we will see a greater emphasis on social and promotional material on the home screen. I think the basic style of the UI might be pretty clean and subdued like other Nintendo consoles, with the color and animation provided by content.

I think the use of animation and transformations will be greater than previous UIs, for example the icon for Zelda might show exactly where you paused the game, and it just zooms into the icon and the game just begins. I think they might do something like that because they have worked so hard removing thresholds for play in other areas, in the launch video the speed of the switch from TV to the Switch was impressive.

I have no factual information, just hoping for something really good.

I hope that new Nintendo sites are an indication on what to expect - bright backgrounds, saturated colors but limited to specific elements and big buttons that make everything easy to see and navigate.

I hope, so hard, that it's going to be instant like the competition. It was absurd in 2012 waiting 2 minutes to open up miiverse or the eShop, that should be nonexistent in 2017.

More clearly: Capable of multitasking.

@Operative Fun fact; Starting up a game on the PS4 is still faster than using the Wii U quick start menu.

@Octane Wouldn't surprise me if the 360 and PS3 still beat Wii U in terms of UI agility.

@FragRed Mii's seem to be fairly integrated into My Nintendo, so I can't imagine them disappearing anytime soon. Not to mention Miitomo.

Not to be a killjoy or anything, but what's with these kind of threads?

  • What do you expect of the Switch UI?
  • Where do you think the SD card shall slot into?
  • Which colour would you like the power button on the Switch to be?
  • How far up the Earths' atmosphere do you think the Switch will cease to work?

is the last one a real topic?

The first two are very real topics that can be discussed. The first moreso than the second, but still.

Hopefully whatever the design of the UI it's simple, sleek, and faster than the Wii U especially the latter. There are days now where it takes a couple of minutes for the Wii U menu to boot up after I play certain games or apps.

I expect it to be the polar opposite of the Wii/Wii U design. Nintendo are leaving that brand and philosophy behind; so it's all the more important that they start from scratch.

Keep in mind also that the Wii philosophy was geared towards a universal audience - the idea being that anyone could pick up a controller and know what to do. But we're now at an age where people don't need this sort of guidance anymore. And, Switch is clearly targeting a more mature audience, so it makes all the more sense that the design reflects our day-to-day habits of using PCs, smartphones and tablets.

One of the things I love about the NES Classic Mini UI is that it's game-centric and fun, and I think Nintendo would do well to use this as a platform for Switch. In other words, rather than focusing on displaying software as generic apps, display and arrange them in a way that does justice to the content. If it is a NES VC game, then show off that original box art. When you hover over a game, provide immediate options that are convenient - such as save states. Tell me which of my friends are online without having to jump into a separate app.

In other words, don't allow their to be a discord between all these different experiences where you're constantly jumping in and out of separate apps; rather, layer them seamlessly over a home menu to make things quick and clear.

Whether Nintendo choose this approach will depend largely on two things: how much they want to target that mature audience, and how much RAM the console has dedicated to its operating system.

I am hoping mii's will still show up on the gui in some fashion but i really just want something similar to the tiles that the wiiu has. It is clean and easy to organize. I still say that Nintendo has the best gui of the current and last gen systems.

-I expect a lot of quality 1st party nintendo games, along with both new and old nintendo ip's that did not get used/or were not developed for the wii u.
-A combination of mobile games and indie games( its confirmed the switch is going to be a touch screen) so mobile games I think will happen for sure. Crossing my fingers for Smite and Rocket league!

  • This one I'm completely unsure of, 3rd party games. I'm sure we'll see ports of the more popular 3rd games already out there, skyrim, fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid 5, etc. But as we don't officially know how powerful the Switch will be. I'll have to wait, in regards to future big time 3rd party games. Really hoping the new Mass effect, Red dead redemption 2, kingdom hearts 3, final fantasy 7 and 15, and next years(2017) stars wars battlefront will make it on the system
  • Last, the best and most massive backlog/library of older Nintendo games: nes, snes, n64, gamecube, wii, wii u. Over time gameboy, gameboy advance, ds and 3ds. I think this one if done right will be a massive selling point for both gamers and nintendo fans alike.
  • On a site note, I'm really really hoping we'll see a full scale console Monster Hunter game on the switch, preferably exclusive to the switch. I think Capcom could really make something special there.

I'm hoping they're smart and go with a modified version of android. Makes it a much more compelling purchase if it's an android tablet with added Nintendo.

I hope they use a clean and fast UI. Android's too full of bloatware (at least in the tablets I have used). Considering they are partnering with Apple for Super Mario Run's launch, they should get some tips for their UI - something sleek, that you can customize to your liking, but efficient and fast.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

@Luna_110 it's up to the developer what kind of 'bloatware' Android has—bloatware is just what the licencee decides to add to the vanilla android.

Owning an Android phone and an Apple iPad, my feeling is that Android took over iOS some time ago as the better OS.

It will also be powered by a much more capable system than a phone so can be added to a lot by Nintendo without slowing anything down.

The advantage of using Android is all the core aps people expect are already there and Nintendo doesn't have to lift a finger to get them on the platform.

I do doubt this will happen as Nintendo has a habit of being overly controlling. But it would make sense.
