Topic: What big 3rd Party games are you ACTUALLY going to buy- day one.

MrGawain

Recently we've seen the trickle of 3rd party announcements start to come to the Switch. Some are a little less than what they are on other consoles, some are delayed form having a universal launch date with the PS4 and XB1 versions, and some are fairly ancient ports from previous consoles. Of course there is an argument that Nintendo fans only buy Nintendo and Nintendo-esque games (e.g: Japanese of cartoonish), and that no matter how big the install base is, were not going to buy lesser ports of the sort of games designed for PS/XB fans.

I'm curious to see what were all honestly thinking of purchasing out of the next 10 big 3rd party titles (I've included Rocket League as although it's an indie it has made a name for itself as a BIG game important to other platforms). below is the list:

FIFA 18
NBA 2K18
WWE 2K18
Payday 2
Rayman
Steep
Lego Worlds.
Skyrim
Rocket League
Sonic Forces
Resident Evil Revelations 1&2

Personally I'm pretty convinced to buy Rocket League, waiting to see how WWE and NBA turn out on the Switch, and have been turned off of Skyrim after being very excited about it, then seeing the gameplay. Although the list isn't entirely stellar, it did make me admit that I'm far more enthused by Nintendo stuff, the Nintendo partnership stuff like Rabbids and FE Warriors, and a load of cool indie stuff. Of course we could see a lot more 3rd party stuff announced soon which may appeal more to my tastes. How about everyone else?

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

I'm only slightly intrigued in Rocket League and Sonic Forces.

Rocket league was genuinely fun on my friends PS4 for awhile so, I'm considering it. Sonic Forces is being considered but I'm leaning no just because of the custom character feature.

I'm definitely getting Dragonball Xenoverse 2 when it comes out. But overall you can see my interest is spread pretty thin.

Never take anything I say seriously. S'all you buddy. ;)
Mainly play on my Switch but I have 3DS, Wii U and PS4 as well.
Fave game series include: Pokemon, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Disgaea, Bayonetta, Dragons Dogma, Phantasy Star & Arena of Valor.

I'll probably buy Mario + Rabbids day one.

And really excited to get FIFA on the go but don't think I'll buy that until it's on deal tbh.

I've always been to intimidated to get into Skyrim (soooo big) but I've bought the game guide in preparation. I think having it mobile will help me as I'll be more inclined to dip in and out of it. So that's gonna be a day one for me.

That's about it for me on the 3rd party front. There are other games I'll get but I tend to wait till things are pretty cheap... to match my personality... 😏

Some of Mario Odyssey is seriously giving heart palpitations.... that plumber is trying to kill me!

Definitely Rocket League and Sonic Forces. The latter has gotten some flak, I guess, but as someone who enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog, I don't care what critics say about Sonic games. Mildly interested in WWE, having played the N64 games back in the day.

Honestly though, if you're looking for an example of a Nintendo fan who generally doesn't care what's big on PlayStation and Xbox, I'm that guy.

I'm likely to go for Skyrim.

I won't be buying too many games full stop but I've never played Skyrim and always quite wanted to.

I may get Rocket League because I enjoy playing it on the PS4 though if Sony actually allowed cross platform play, a Switch purchase would be a guarantee but as it stands I'll see how I feel come it's release as to how well it plays.

Mario + Rabbids is day one and so is Skyrim which I deliberately held off getting on either PS4 or Xbox One even when on sale simply to have it on Switch.

I'm going to need to see WWE on the Switch but I'm tempted. But that's all I'm interested in for now from third parties.

I've never really understood this train of thought that owners of Nintendo consoles only want to play Nintendo-esque games...

I was an N64 kid growing up - and I played everything from cutesy platformers like Yoshi's Story through to grittier, adult-themed games like Perfect Dark (and a whole bunch of stuff in between) ..sure, my collection had a lot of Nintendo-developed games - because, well, they consistently make great games (!) - but I also had pretty much everything Rare and DMA Design made - and a whole bunch of other third-party/non-Nintendo developed content too...

Rare got bought by Microsoft, with much of the talent jumping ship to form the phoenix company Free Radical Design (PS2) - DMA Design ended up being purchased by Take Two and became Rockstar North, also developing for non-Nintendo consoles...I still wanted to play the Nintendo games I knew and loved - but I still wanted to play the Rare (Free Radical) and DMA (Rockstar) games I knew and loved too - so I got myself a Nintendo GameCube and a Sony PlayStation 2 so that I could continue to play all of the games made by my favourite developers and continue to experience the 'best of both worlds'...

If Rare and DMA would have continued supporting Nintendo, I'd have probably only bought a GameCube - if a new Perfect Dark or Body Harvest game (or modern equivalents) came to the Switch, I'd 100% buy them...they're not cutesy, they're not typically 'Nintendo-esque' games - but I owned both on my Nintendo 64 and played the life out of them! ..and I'd do it again, no question.

Sure, there's probably a whole generation of kids who only really associate Nintendo with 'E for Everyone' games - but there's a whole generation of us who fell in love with all games, from cutesy to hardcore, on a Nintendo console and would love our Switch libraries to have similar depth and diversity...

EDIT: Oh - and just regarding the 'day 1' thing...I very, very rarely buy games on day 1 - mainly because there aren't many developers that I actually trust not to bring out a game before it's ready! ..I got Breath of the Wild on day 1 - because I trust Nintendo - and before that, the last game I bought on day 1 was Grand Theft Auto V (X360) back in 2013! (..because I trust Rockstar!) ..that's not to say that I won't pick these types of game up at all - I just want to check that they're not broken, horrible messes first! ..I certainly wouldn't rush out to buy any Ubisoft published games after the way they handled the release of Assassin's Creed Unity - taking out a press embargo to ensure that gamers weren't warned in advance that they were buying an unplayable mess of a game - better just to wait a few days and see what the day 1 reception is like first! ..too risky!

EDIT 2: Of all of the games on OP's list - Rocket League is the one that I'm most tempted by...maybe a 'day 2' purchase for me - after I've had it confirmed that this awesome, AWESOME game is hitting a solid 60fps on Switch ..won't be getting many 'day 1' games until the industry, as a whole, cleans up its act a bit - if it isn't fully optimised yet, don't release it yet - that's all I ask!

I'm super keen for Skyrim. Played all the expansions on PC/Steam and loved it.
Already pre-ordered Mario+Rabbids, cant wait for that one also. So far i only have the collectors edition of Breath of the Wild but looking at getting other games soon.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

It would be a help if they announced some. The vast majority are late ports. Or the few that are original I'm not interested in and it remains to be seen if they're gimped. FIFA 18 as an example isn't the full version on Switch.

None.

Because I don't own a Switch yet, so getting them day one is kinda pointless...

I don't think I'm buying many at all, to be honest. I would totally buy Skyrim, but I've already put an obscene number of hours into it. Mario + Rabbids looks interesting, but I've never played a strategy game like that, and I doubt it'll be my cup of tea. I would buy Stardew Valley, but I already own that on PC.

The main third party game I know I will get is Monster Hunter, assuming the West gets a MH game. Outside of that, I'm not sure. We'll have to see what else gets announced.

BanjoPickles

I may buy Mario + Rabbids but, other than that, I don't know. I want to support Bethesda, but I can't justify spending $50-60 on a game that I can buy for PS4 for a fraction of that cost. I already have RE Revelations on 3DS, and I thought that Revalations 2 was garbage, so that's out. Honestly, for the first time in Nintendo's history, there are practically no third party retail releases that I have any interest in. It sucks because I have always supported both first-and-third party efforts, from the NES-Wii.

For higher profile games, only the Resident Evil Revelations collection. There's a lot of third-party indie games I buy day one off the e-shop, however. Next up is Retro City Rampage, after that will likely be Sonic Mania and hopefully Shakedown Hawaii is still coming out in 2017.

FIFA 18 - No
NBA 2K18 - No
WWE 2K18 - No
Payday 2 - No
Rayman - Maybe if it gets a significant price cut in a sale; otherwise, no (Already own on PS4 AND Vita)
Steep - No
Lego Worlds - Maybe; definitely not right away
Skyrim - Eventually; not right away
Rocket League - No (didn't like the PS4 version)
Sonic Forces - No
Resident Evil Revelations 1&2 - Yes; if not at launch, then soon after

I would definitely buy any of the retro Capcom collections, almost anything RE-related, Dark Souls, indies, etc.

As for third party this year, I'll be getting Mario + Rabbids and Sonic Mania for sure. Already got Puyo Puyo Tetris.

On day 1? Sonic Mania and Rocket League for sure. I'm interested in getting one of NBA 2K18 or Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 at launch, haven't decided which. Will probably get RE Revelations 2 as well.

Otherwise I'll grab Skyrim next year.
