After experiencing problems with the WiFi signal on my switch and then reading this article yesterday...
http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/6/14831896/nintendo-switch-wi-f...

I discovered something.... 2/3 bars while not downloading and then 3/3 only while downloading.

Upon setting up my switch console I could not stay connected long enough to install the day 1 update. This was only 7 meters away from the router. I then spent the next 4 hours playing around with router settings but unlike every other device in my house the switch signal remained weak(er).

My video above may go some ways to explaining why...
PS. At 2/3 bars I am now content, especially if it increases to full power while downloading and/or in use.

I think Nintendo are trying to consume power where possible and that's OK with me just as long as it doesn't impact speeds and/or connectivity.

The only place for my router is up stairs in my spare bedroom. I get full bars when in that room. I step out of the doorway and it drops to two bars and halfway down the stairs I can't stay or get connected. Pretty frustrating. (I swear there has to be lead in the paint at my townhome)

Sometime this week I am going to have figure out what I can do. At least the switch is easy to take up stairs and do my updates.

After yesterday's patch my system is now constantly showing 3/3 bars - wifi

Patch notes from Nintendo are vague but they may have made changes to the wifi wares....

Ah yeah, I remember reading about the way Switch handles wifi to conserve battery power somewhere. It would also explain how my Switch had 0-1 bars in idle in my upstairs bedroom and yet when I played Splatoon 2, I played for over half an hour with no lag, no disconnects etc and I was really surprised.

I usually only get 2 bars in the same room as my router. And I have issues with videos on the eshop buffering and stuttering. It's no better after the update, and my phone, pc etc are all fine. No signal upstairs on my Switch at all.

So I wish it was the case that it's just conserving battery, but doesn't seem to be in my experience.
