Folders/custom organisation would also be useful for hiding some of the more embarrassing games in one's collection and/or to hide non-family friendly games from being seen by children/guests.
I miss the way they handled this on the Wii U, where each user can customise their icons to their liking,
Yeah they haven't really added anything worthwhile in the way of updates since the system launched.
Well not for the UI maybe but they have added a fair amount of hidden changes. Like video capture, USB headset support, USB controller support, adding friends from Wii U/3DS friend lists, adding friends from Facebook/Twitter, system transfer and an entire redesign of the news feed. I don't think they've been doing too bad in terms of updating the system. It just hasn't seemed like a lot because it was pretty decent to start with....

Ok but that wasn't really my point or what you were originally trying to say. You said that they hadn't added anything worthwhile via updates since launch. I'm saying that they have, it just hasn't really been UI related. Now you're comparing them to their competitors in terms of software updates when the PS4/XBOne have had 4 years of updates before the Switch was even on store shelves.

@skywake It didn't take the PS4 4 years to add folders, and it didn't take the Xbox any time at all to let you sort your games alphabetically. The Switch has no real excuse to have such a poor UI at this point in time.
Only have four retail games and four digital games so, I wouldn’t know how the tiles or the (end of) library works on the Switch. In any case, there should be an option for folders just like both the Wii U and 3DS.
Even just allowing us to sort them alphabetically or by genre would be fine by me!
There's a whole list of stuff that Nintendo added into the Wii and Wiiu UI that is sorely missing from the Switch. I understand that they wanted to cut out the fluff to help speed up loading times but simple things like folders and the ability to organize game/save files is really an odd omission, surely these don't do anything to slow down the Switch in anyway.
@DownRightSam I have been organizing my games on my PS4 with folders for years now, it was a complete mess before they added them.
@Dizzy_Boy Yeah I can't imagine folders showing it down at all, if anything it should speed it up since the show all software menu wouldn't have to load so many games at once.

Honestly other than folders which was only on the Wii U and moving icons I'm struggling to think of much that's missing. If anything I'm thinking of stuff the Switch does better. For example the Switch lacks the SD card menu and thank goodness for that. The Wii U had the quick start menu which the Switch doesn't need because it just loads fast in general. The Switch has an options menu for each piece of software which includes the option to manage storage without having to jump into system settings.
Hell, to a degree the most obvious reason for taking control of how the icons themselves is also for a good reason. The Switch lacks a dedicated position for the game currently in the cartridge slot. As a result when you put a new game in the system it's shuffled to the start. Which is what this thread whine is ultimately about. But doing it this way also means that you have all of the same management options for games on your shelf as you do for digital content.
I'd take the Switch UI as it is over any previous Nintendo console's UI any day.

@JayJ The Switch UI/Menu is also way more responsive and user friendly than the clusterf*** that is the PS4/Xbone's UIs, so I don't really see your point.
@Mew My point is that the navigation is a complete mess if you have a lot of games, something that has been mentioned by numerous other users in this topic.
The Xbox One might be worse in many ways but it at least lets you organize your games alphabetically and quickly check for updates for all of your games, something that the Switch doesn't do. As for the PS4 it's folders gives it a far more organized UI which allows for quicker access and less time wasted looking for things.

I honestly fail to see how games being sorted alphabetically makes it easier to find what you want. Surely sorted by most recently played/downloaded is a better system if the point is quick access to the content you want. And I don't understand what you mean by "checking for updates". What is there to check? The console should do all of that automatically and in the background as the Switch does....
With the PS4 and folders? Well sure. Folders are a good way to organise digital content. Though personally if Nintendo were to implement folders I'd only want it to be on the all software menu at the end. Frankly having the last game I loaded on the first screen? That's exactly what I want. I also think you aren't being very fair minded when you continue to ignore the fact that it took Sony 3 years to implement folders on the PS4.

I want to think that this is sarcasm, but it doesn’t sound like it is...
Why do libraries and book shops sort their books by alphabetical order (to the authors name)? Outside of the top twenty new releases, why do entertainment stores sort their music and films alphabetically? And why does the PlayStation 3 and 4 allows you to sort out your games in the library in alphabetical order too?
If you’re still somehow struggling to understand why allowing folks to find and sort things out alphabetically, then I really don’t know what else there is to say to you. I have always kept my books, music and games in alphabetical order, and it may surprise you that quite a lot of people do!
