With things being missing such as Virtual Console and a web browser, it just seems like Nintendo has released the Switch too early. They could have held it back and add these simple features and could have added Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 to the launch day games.
I think they knew they couldn't wait any longer especially if they wanted zelda to launch along with the game. This is why they opted for Maxwell vs pascal for the gpu.
Software exists to move hardware, it's there to build an install base. As it stands pre-orders in a lot of regions are selling out. People who don't have a pre-order are probably going to have to wait until April. More content can't sell more consoles if there aren't any more consoles to sell.....

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
Erm...the Virtual Console was missing at launch for the 3DS and Wii U too. Just saying.
And honestly the web browser made no sense at all. For console about being on-the-go, would you really have been able to use the web browser on the go? And by the time you are home, you have a computer or a phone to help you out. And very few people have a web browser without either a phone or a computer. Those people would need a web browser.
So overall, no it did not launch too early. In fact, it launched at the perfect time. Finances have recovered from Christmas and people are looking for a nice big purchase. And with no competitors around the Spring season to compete against a new hardware launch, Nintendo is getting all the attention
There's little competition for attention right now and they'll have an established user base by the Christmas period at the end of the year.
However cool it would have been to have Nintendo fire all of their big guns all at once it would have been really not clever at all.
Agreed, they are doing what they did with Pokemon in Generation 1. Holding back all the merchandise until people are screaming for it. Except in this case it's Mario, Fire Emblem, etc
Spoon feeding us a variety of games will keep this console alive in its first year. And its second year already has Fire Emblem. Rarely has Nintendo started confirming games over a year in advance.
Seeing as people have generally recovered from Christmas by March, are due a tax rebate within the next month, have no council tax in February or March (at least here in the UK); financially this is really the first time of the year when people have some disposable income, so from that standpoint I think it is a perfect time to launch.
In terms of attention I think it's also a great time because there's generally not a lot else happening in terms of huge releases at this time of year, thus all eyes, ears and attention are focused on Nintendo and the Switch. Had they released it at Christmas it would get lost in the shuffle alongside the AAA games that come out from October onwards, Black Friday deals on other consoles and their games, and the release of the Scorpio. Plus it gives them a good solid 8 months to build up a nice selection of games by Christmas, as well as a larger userbase, a few bundles no doubt and perhaps even a price drop.
The only downside to bringing it out now is I think it probably needed just that LITTLE bit of extra time to be worked on for updates, apps etc that people want/expect (such as a web browser and Netflix), and for perhaps to have had another major title ready for launch (Mario Odyssey), and then perhaps a slightly lesser title (to some degree) ready as well to act as most peoples second game (like Bomberman will for me), such as Splatoon 2 or something like that. For me personally, damn that would be an awesome launch line up lol; Mario, Zelda, Splatoon and Bomberman.
Having said that, with so little time to game, even buying so much as one single game at launch will be too much for me with the amount of time that I personally have to play lol.
I watched a YT video by Arlo who argued that the Switch was being "soft" launched this week. I must say that I agree with him. The week the hardcore fans are getting the system, but the real sale-through to the public will be in autumn. If by then we don't have online play working smoothly, a well stocked VC and a clear schedule of big games on the horizon I will be very surprised.
btw I doubt the Switch will get an Internet browser. Personally, I see no reason for it.
The time is right. Zelda is long overdue so if Switch can launch with that and a few more games and has a slick fast OS than let's get this party started!

"Wouldn't it be great if they put more of their big games at launch instead of releasing them at a reasonable pace" no
I just wish they had one ore two more heavy hitters. For people not interested in Zelda, there in no reason to purchase a Switch yet really. Like, they could have at least launched Mario Kart 8: Deluxe on Friday.
