Why absolutely no hype for this one? Famitsu reviewed it as 9/9/9/8, so we’re clearly dealing here with an absolute stunner of a game.

Im pretty pumped for it!
Itll be nice to play a Warriors game that isnt Zelda, Fire Emblem or One Piece themed. I cant believe I just said that. LOL.

So is this part of the mainline Warriors series? I’ve only played Fire Emblem Warriors.

It's a crossover of dynasty warriors and samurai warriors. The reviews coming out of Japan have been absolutely scintillating. I think this will be a real sleeper here. Very sad to see the usual suspects, Mario Party et al., steal all its thunder.

It's difficult to get hyped for what is arguably Koei Tecmo's most often released genre of games, the 3D beat'em up/brawler. Don't get me wrong, I love the genre and the games like this that Koei Tecmo produce, my favourite being Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage 2. But like FIFA or Call of Duty, if you've played one...you've played them all.

I'll be a buyer once Warriors Orochi 4 hits the bargain bin.

Attack on Titan 2 is almost at that point.

.

Couldn't we say the exact same for Smash Bros.? And yet the vast majority here treat that as the second coming.

That's true to a certain degree, but I was speaking more towards the company itself. If you told me Koei Tecmo was developing a new game I would immediately assume it would be a Warriors-styled game. Even though Koei Tecmo has published games in other genres, I associated the company with the 3D brawler since they've iterated on formula so many times. More often than Nintendo with Mario, EA with Madden/FIFA, or Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed.

There are over sixty Warriors-styled games developed by Omega Force over the past fifteen years.

Well, on this launch day I can confirm that it is an absolute stunner of a game. It's very much in the running for my own personal GOTY right now...

@scoobdoo Really? Could you explain why? Just asking because I've already seen plenty of mixed reviews online, 8.5 from DualShockers to 5/10 from PushSquare. Also are you playing the Switch version? I'm interested in how that version runs, especially in handheld mode.

Mario Galaxy is ten years old, and now I feel old.

scoobdoo

@ilikeike It runs at least as well as FEW in handheld, which I thought was a great experience. Backgrounds do go down slightly in quality, but it's still a joy to play portable.

So, can it run at 60FPS docked?

I'd normally be all over this like a sweaty rash, but a lot of the vids/reviews/stuff i've seen suggest it compares quite unfavourably to WO3? Of all the warriors games, the Orochi ones are often my favourites due to the level of fan-service and often sheer crazy (Ryu/Kasumi/Achilles in WO3 was awesome!). Happy to hear that's not your experience so far scoob and I'm impressed that they've got it running well day 1, especially on Switch.

I'm just... I dunno. I normally support them day 1 as I 100% want them to keep porting the games to the west, but after the disappointment (at least for me) of DW9 & looking at the amount of dlc already available for this/smelling the inevitable 'ultimate' edition I'm far more hesitant than I'd otherwise normally be.

Just got the game.

I'm genuinely impressed. And not just with the game but with its looks and performance. It's super sharp and crisp on the TV and on the handheld as well. That was one of the first things I checked- I wanted to make sure it wasn't lo-res in handheld mode or choppy framerate... and it's definitely not.

This is a quality release. Much more so than I was expecting given the questionable quality of some of KT's earlier Switch titles, barring the crossovers of course.

@JaxonH @scoobdoo thanks for the feedback - definitely keep it coming as i’m more than happy to toss principals & willpower aside if it really is as good as it looks/past entries in the series!

@JaxonH

Whats it like playing in splitscreen mode?
Heard its pretty rough.
Looking forward to it regardless.
Cheers.

I’m in Australia - are the prices as screwed up for Switch everywhere else? I know Switch games have a nasty habit of being higher priced but geezus;

Standard:
Xbox/PS4 - $95
Switch - $105

Deluxe:
Xbox/PS4 - $125
Switch - $150

Obviously i’m talking digital (only buy digi) but for games launching at the same time it seems nuts? Wasn’t going to buy it, then I caved & thought sod it, i’ll get the Switch version & now i’m kinda torn all over again - thinking xbox on principle but losing that portability whilst doing some inevitable grinding may come back to haunt. Ugh, hate this - so many games now require a whiteboard, flowchart or pivot table before knowing which version/platform to buy.

@GeeEmm
Haven't tried. I'll be playing this all single player so it's probably best to ask someone else about that.

@BrainOfGrimlock
$59.99 in the US, regardless of platform or physical/digital. If it's just $10, I'd stick with Switch. It's not worth giving up an HD handheld version and HD portable console version and system level Cross save among all 3 versions just to save $10. But if you're talking about the deluxe version I might think twice about it.

I picked this up in the end, went with the Switch version to begin with but - & I should prefix this by saying i’m one of the most tolerant graphics/frames/resolution/tearing people i know - i struggled with it tbh in terms of frame rate. Not sure if i’ve been spoilt with HW/FEW but the slower pace of combat coupled with pretty noticeable frame drops (in docked mode) put me off a little. Because I was enjoying the game & naturally have more cash than sense I grabbed it on Xbox1X too and am loving it there with no issues.

Just a word of warning for those who struggle with frame drops etc. I have no doubt that they’ll improve it given time (they always do) & in no way would I say it’s anything like unplayable - far from it - but it’s definitely sub-optimal in places.

@BrainOfGrimlock

Sounds like you kinda regrets getting an Switch version. If you do pick up Xbox One version, can you tell me if you like it a lot better or not?

I may not have PS4 pro or Xbox One X but I do have PS4 (PLUS member) and Xbox One (not an gold member).

Umm… Care to have some gravy?
