I'm wondering if this is really due to being docked or if they just came this way out of box.
Some users are stating that it's warping when they've never docked it. Does anyone have experience with plastics? I ran injection molding in a factory for a few years out of highschool, and the presses that made the pre-forms ran at over 300 degrees to cure and form the materials into whaterver part it was making.
Do you think the heat from the processor would cause the plastic housing to distort or do you think it's just a bad shipment? Would the heat cause it to disort evenly, or should it be bowing on one side more than the other?
Someone posted on these forums a bit back with a slightly bent Switch and he wasn't sure if he got it like that or if it bent slowly over time. It's probably a hard thing to notice as it looks to be minor, but I never checked when getting my Switch to see if it was bent when I first purchased it, it's just not something you think to check when you're too busy checking for dead pixels and good cooling etc. I reckon it's a bad batch and maybe a few must come like that? The Switch could probably get very hot if you leave it inside a protective case so that the vents are blocked in sleep mode and it somehow turns itself on.
@dokkaebi plastics aside there's still the aluminum backing plate, the PCB itself, and the steel frame around the perimeter. Force, and force while heated could maybe bend it, but I don't see how it would be at all possible while docked unless it was already like that, short of a bad/blocked fan/intake/exhaust, or as @honelith says, keeping it in a case while it's on (though by default, handheld, it should sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity unless you override or extend that setting.) I think there's definitely more to these handful of reddit folks than what they're admitting to as it looks more like iPhone "bendgate" type issues to me, which can happen with any thin machine under force.
@gcunit this might be better moved to the Switch thread since it's already being discussed there.
Mine hasn't warped at all and I got it on day 1. That being said, I play with it while docked about 80% of the time. From what I've read, most of the users who claim to have a warped Switch play with it mostly in "handheld mode."
I've also experienced none of the other problems people have mentioned (the dock scratching the screen; left joycon losing connection; etc.).
Really, the only problem I'm having is the Switch automatically changing the HDMI input on my TV. It's infuriating and I have to keep it out of the dock when I'm doing anything on the tv other than playing it.

This would be the first thing i would look i to.
Different metals of different sizes fixed together.... Uneven heating and cooling...
I have just purchased a new neon switch and as well as a bent dock the tablet is slighty curved. It has just been removed from packaging and had no use. Is this normal?
If it's the "match power state" toggle I tried turning that off, but it didn't fix the issue :/
It might be because I have a Samsung smart tv (which I've heard a couple rumors regarding this issue about).
Your TV should have an option for each input for HDMI Function CEC Devices. Here is where you tell your TV whether it's allowed to be controlled by connected HDMI devices, whether the TV can control it, or both or neither.
@monty-gti6
No, that's not normal. The dock should bend inwards at the top, yes, but the Switch itself should be flat. I'd call Nintendo and set up a "repair" and they should replace the unit. Sounds like a few bad ones got out from manufacturing (seriously if I were Nintendo I would take my business else where because whoever is making these units is doing a piss poor job with defective ppm)

Il call them in the morning and ask them for a no bull answer on if they are still churning out this faulty crap. Gona return it to the store as its not been used yet. The store has several more units, might check another one but if that is banana shaped then il get a refund on the games and machine and call it a day. Will keep you all posted on the phone call to nintendo.
Ok so I spoke to nintendo this morning and 1st I metioned the dock bends inwards/narrower at the top. The call centre op said let me have a look at a dock to hand to see if they are meant to be like that(as if he has never heard of the problem). He came back to me and said it should be straight and to take it back to retailer.
I then mentioned how the tablet is curved and asked the clear as day question - is it designed to be straight or curved? He said straight.
Just had a look at another console at the store. This time the tablet was straight but the dock was bent. I didnt need to look at any more..I have no confidence in the build quality of the console. Thats without considering the battery and pro controller faults. I got a refund for everything.
Looking at the dock its a terrible design and looks to be made cheap - plastic guides against a plastic screen. It should have rails in the dock and tablet to avoid screen contact.
Personally from my experience I would hold off buying a switch until it is revised
Every system has had issues small and large. PS4 the holy box from on high straighg up bricked and even now overheats from time to time.
Look at it this way. If you arent willing to accept that any new consumer hardware will have unannounced revisions to its internals over time, because expecting anything with possible manufacturing variation due to volume of components to be perfect from the go is frankly asinine and a complete departure from what people know and accept happens to products, you havent been paying attention.
Phones are never perfect. Consoles, PC parts, new software, always has issues to be ironed out because you cant test them in the real world until they are out in the real world.
With some of the complaints yes the fault may be on Nintendo for not fully accounting for Humans being generally moronic apes with large hands who smash two pieces of plastic together and expect it to work (Not you, personally by the by) but at the same time thats called having faith in your consumers.
You did the right thing by returning it but you did the wrong thing by jumping in head first when it is common knowledge things like this will happen, becausr things take time to be made perfect rather than jjst good.
With the store mentioning that it wasnt a 1st batch i just presumed the faulty docks and joycons would have been sold out by now and that the bent tablets was user error.
I could be wrong but im betting this bent dock, bent tablet is more than just a few isolated incidents. Its more a case of how many users notice it until screen scratches and more severe warping appear with use.
I can understand electrical gremlins with new tackle but this warping issue should show up in full batches. Qc should be doing at least visual inspections and have picked up on this.
If i was more of a hardcore gamer with more time on my hands i could have gone through all the stock looking for a "good" one. Based on my experience I have made the better choice.
Im not trying to slate nintendo as we all know in the past nothing comes close to them in terms of games and hardware quality. Im Merely trying to answer the questions about the tablets being bent from new. Maybe there is less "moronic apes" and trolls than we previously thought!
@monty-gti6 interesting to know that in your case both the dock and the console were deformed. The two aren't directly related but I wonder if there's a reason that everything in the box together would have all the defects? Are you positive nothing in there looked like it had been opened? It just makes me wonder if someone was boxing up defective components and selling them as new? We've heard of those loose cases of bad docks and maybe bad out of the box consoles, but both in the same box, that might be the first one I've heard of. Further the "warped console" thing was alleged to be heat related. If it was new in box, it should have never actually been ON at all!
It cant be ruled out that the public or staff have swapped it but there was not any signs of it being disturbed. When I returned it they called over the manager ( due to the value of the system)who checked the serial number of the console and box matched up. He said he wasnt aware of any others being returned. I believe its a manufacturing fault and its just coincidence that a faulty dock and tablet were packed together. Maybe the heat is making the bend more pronounced and noticeable.
