Really enjoyed the demo and had a lot of fun. Never heard of the series before now but will end up purchasing at some stage.

Played the demo so far till after the first real mission (Fort Krest). I like it a lot though I am really pretty bad at it. I love when developers let you play the beginning of the game. Usually tailor-made demos tend to scare me away from a game rather than bait me. But this isn't the case with this type of demo. Also you get to experience far more atmosphere and context. And I like that the demo is rather chunky. I was pretty sure this was right up my alley from the get-go and after the demo I most likely will get this.

Never want to come down, never want to put my feet back down on the ground.

Man, I'm not even remotely ready for Valkyria Chronicles 4 and DB Fighter Z in a couple weeks. Playing Monster Hunter Gen Ult, got sidetracked by Final Fantasy XV Pocket and then Xenoblade 2 Torna, and now this is almost upon us.

Heck, I still need to get back to Octopath Traveler and YS VIII.

Guess it's a good problem to have, but also bad because not having time for great games always sucks

Priorities. Everything else gets set aside when Valkyria 4 releases.

ATM, I still have Slime-san, SK Reflexions, both Mega Man collections, and Okami HD to beat. Just on Switch.

I played just past the first true mission - Fort Krest, but I was a bit apprehensive about playing it through, because I'm currently playing through the 2nd game on PSP at the moment. I don't think I'll be ready to play it for a while but, when the time comes, I want to give it my full attention.

From what I've gathered so far, it lacks the fluff of the second one, being more like the original.
For example, in the second game, you can change the hero's class to any of the 5 main classes - Scout, Shock, Engineer, [Rocketeer], [Knight] (the latter being a close range, high defense option against entrenched troops), and within those classes (and with the rest of the squad), various subclasses as well.
Snipers, for example are a variety of scout that you need to promote to in order to utilise. You promote troops by earning "credits" for participation in battle, whether it be capture of a camp or defeating an enemy.

I hadn't fought on a map with multiple areas like in VC2 either - you could switch between them with the shoulder buttons, and capturing a camp could allow you to reinforce from camps in a new area, which adds an interesting dimension.

I think I prefer the setting though. In VC2, it's like a highschool anime, with all the tropey characters - class reporters, exchange students, classmates who are actually aspiring idols. VC4 seems a bit more serious in that regard, and I think I prefer it that way.

This game is getting no love. Tuesday is just a few days away.

I'm ready though. Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 on Switch is a dream come true.

Hopefully this will gain more exposure after release.

My copy is preloaded and ready to go, though!

Ya. Im hoping some good reviews get Nintendo fans to turn their heads.

It would be an utter shame for this to flop. A long time Sony exclusive series that's pure classic through and through... show that support!

And the reviews are here!

82 on metacritic for the Switch version. 86 for the PS4 version. The big difference is that the PS4 version has almost twice as many reviews.

From the reviews, the game sounds like a more polished rendition of the first game. Down to the somewhat cheap late-game bosses.

Will get it on Tuesday, but as I go abroad the same day, I can't play it until Friday when I come back home. Will not bring the Switch with me, afraid it will get stolen or lost.

But I'm very hyped to play it! Seems fun!

Hopefully this is one of those games that unlocks at midnight. If so, then it'll be just a little over an hour!

I can't wait til I get off work today!

Btw this is why reviews are so backwards.

Switch version does everything PS4 version does and so much more. 86 for PS4? Best make it a 90 for Switch. Full console entry of a new VC game on an HD handheld and still being console is easily worth a 4 point spread

Transferred my save data over this morning and deleted the demo. It's finally out!

@JaxonH Yeah, it's not like there's any significant performance issues to bring the score down. I think most of the people in the gaming media who were actively interested in this game are reviewing the PS4 version, what with it being a Playstation-associated series at all, which would explain both the higher number of reviews for that version and the higher metascore overall.

Eh. Oh well. We got a portable Valkyria Chronicles that wasn't compromised in some major way, so I'm satisfied (such as the segmented maps in the PSP versions, for example; or some insanely low handheld resolution; or a terrible framerate).

Well, it looks like you and me are the only people on this entire site with proper taste in video games 😁

I say we toast to that... 🍷

The game is excellent btw. Looks great in handheld, as I knew it would from the demo. I got my special edition in the mail today as well. A gorgeous tank and art book... you know what let me just post some pics. One sec

@JaxonH Nice. The tank is smaller than I thought it'd be. That art book is awesome, though. Great pics!

So far, I like the increased complexity of objectives in this game. I also like the cast, which seems more grounded than it was in the first game.

I wish they'd added in the ability to look at descriptions of the soldiers' quirks when you're selecting who to deploy, though.

I noticed that. Also in command screen doesn't say anything other than their name. You can press Y for more info of course, it just would've been nice to have more info by default when selecting through your people

@JaxonH Don't forget that you can go to the options menu and choose to speed up enemy turns. It's not as drastic an effect as the fast-forwarding in Codename S.T.E.A.M., but it helps speed things up when there's a lot of enemy movement.
