Topic: US Nintendo Switch in South Africa (or anywhere outside the US)

I've been wanting to buy a Nintendo Switch for the longest time but its price here in South Africa has increased drastically. I've since considered buying one off Amazon but later realised I'd forgotten about the difference in adapters. I want to know what to do about this difference and whether I should either:

Buy a Switch off Amazon for much cheaper and buy a separate power adapter from a South African store.
OR
Accept defeat and buy an overpriced $440 (R6500) Switch from a South African store (which still keeps the old outdated ones).
OR
(Hopefully) any other better solution any of you might have.

Voltage here in SA is 230V btw.

@JustHikaru there's a website called made in china ,it's a business to business website ,u mean you have to buy In Bulk ( large amounts of the one product). If you ask they might sell you just one ,u this I . A new nintendo 3DS is about €80 . A new switch is about €140 euro. Check it out 👍👍👍👍👍

@JustHikaru Buy the Switch cheaper online and get a local adapter. The Switch is totally region free and uses USB-C. Just get a Nintendo USB-C to USB-A cable and use any USB to wall outlet adapter. Problem solved. The only thing you want to avoid are so-called fast charge devices. Switch doesn't support those.

It's also a good idea to avoid 3rd party docks, they often don't build them to Nintendo's specifications.

I know this is really late but thank you so much for the suggestions guys. Thanks for the heads up on third party docks @Heavyarms55. I also found made in china to be very useful, thanks @Ninfan. I lost access to my account and forgot to solve the issue so that's why I've only seen these responses now.

@JustHikaru To be fair, although I still do not trust them, there hasn't been any reports of faulty 3rd party docks for a while. There were a lot of problems with them in the first year or so the Switch was out. Enough so that it is the reason I don't trust them. But still, I haven't heard of the problem at all lately.

Glad things worked out for you!

I think the only thing I'd do concerning my dock is buy a sleeve if I'm afraid of scratches, or even a smaller case for my dock board if I get too paranoid. I found a guy on YouTube who made a few videos surrounding this third-party dock problem, Wulff Den.

Well Switch are only sold in their Region areas so US Switches will not be sold in S.Africa they most likely have their own Region setting Switch so those are the ones you should buy. Without a link to S.Africa Amazon if there is one no one here will know what they going rate is. It's smarter to buy a Switch for your Region instead of getting one somewhere else. This is in relations to Warranty and Warranty Repairs will be voided if you do so that is why your to buy one for your Region for Warranty Protection. So unless those are used and out of warranty units one shouldn't be doing that. As 3rd party chargers if they don't specifically mentioned V/A ratings for Switch that should be avoided. If older units are they because they haven't sold out that is the reason and are you sure on those models since there is no image or links for others to see no one can tell if they are the older models. So if one is going to ask that then links to the site is needed to verify if older or newer model.
