Topic: Unlocking new fighters in Smash soon becomes brutally hard

@JaxonH At one point, I was ready to give up after unlocking half the roster. It had gotten so hard that I didn't think I would ever unlock another character. But I found using Zero Suit Samus is really helpful as she is really fast and has some good ranged attacks. For stages in which there are no ledges you can fall off of (i.e. Pac-Land), use Little Mac and lure them near one side of the screen, then deliver a roundhouse that knocks them off-screen. One key is keep jumping and dodging, stay away from them and try to hit them with ranged attacks (i.e. Zero Suit Samus's blaster gun and plasma whip). Now I've unlocked almost all of the fighters except a handful. Yeah, it took a long time, but I eventually started to enjoy the challenge. And it shouldn't take 20 minutes between rematches. If I play two matches, each with a 2:30 time limit, that usually opens up a rematch. You need to do a lot of button mashing, though.

All fighters are now unlocked!!! Yaaaay! Dr. Mario was the last one I beat, and he was tough. I count 72 fighters total.

There exists a good balance between making unlocking characters take so little effort it feels like a waste of time (4) and being a giant slog that isn't fun at all (Ultimate and Melee). Brawl handled unlocking characters the best.
@HobbitGamer It's not the fact that you have to unlock characters that's the problem, it's how slow and tedious it is.

@rjejr
It’s not about liking to spend money, it’s about liking playing good video games. And we all like that or else we wouldn’t be here. In order to obtain that you do have to spend money. I’m willing to spend it if it’s worth it. And if it’s good I’m willing to spend more for more of it. To a point. Sometimes a game can become too long to where the enjoyment ROI isn’t netting the same results.

NOW PLAYING

I bought a song at the shop called Ring A Ding. It's seems to be a Japanese pop song, and it sounds really awesome. I made it the main song that plays in the Living Room stage, and now Living Room is one of my favorites!

All you have to do is unlock Isabelle and you are set. Why would you want to play as anyone else

The Wii U is still the world's best console. Buy one today!

It took me a second to realize you were talking about this game and that you didn't physically go to the store and buy a random J Pop song that you play in your living room.

I was about to say "What does that have to do with anything?" Whoops.

@JaxonH "Sometimes"

I htink that's a key thing to remember, nothing is ever black and white.

@JDORS Congrats. Though looking back at it, the game has only been out for about 3 days, so as hard as it may be to unlock some of the characters, and as much as I hate having to unlock things - at all - thats I've already paid for - I do hope it takes me about 3 weeks to unlock them all, b/c knowing me I'l probably stop playing after that.

Nintnedo should have given everyone 1 free pass for the game so people could all unlock their 'main" and worry about the rest later. B/c I think that's what most people would want to do, not worry about unlocking all 70, btu everybody has that 1 they want to get. So the game should come with 1 free pass. Id' still prefer all my amiibo I spent money on to unlock them, but I've taken up enough space w/ amiibo int his thread as it is.

@rjejr IGN has a guide that shows you how to unlock specific characters in Classic Mode. Here is the link:

https://www.ign.com/wikis/super-smash-bros-switch/How_to_Unlo...

I was able to use Classic Mode to unlock my favorites like Little Mac and Zero Suit Samus early on. If you unlock most of your favorite fighters early when doing so is easy, then you won't be as frustrated later when the difficulty ramps up.

@JDORS Thanks for the link, I'm pretty sure it will get used at some point.

Imagine if you had no idea who was in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player roster, and you played the game and then started unlocking them one by one... I think that's what Nintendo are going for with this, and I for one actually wish I could do it just like that. It would be amazing (with a few "who the heck is that" moments)!

@nocdaes That’s how my friend was yesterday while we played. She was having fun guessing who the silluettes were.

@HobbitGamer See, I think that's pretty cool. Sometimes I fear that I am too close to all things Nintendo and features in their games, that I actually end up missing out on some of the magic. If Super Mario Odyssey 2 ever gets announced, which I think it will, I'm going to avoid news on it entirely as an experiment.

HobbitGamer

@nocdaes Yeah, it was pretty neat. I mean, she knows the main franchises like Mario, Zelda, Megaman, and old Pokemon. But it was fun to see a Smash newcomer (that loves the come even tho she can be hot trash at it, haha) wanting to know what each character is from, why they got in, what their significance is, etc. Even for the levels the challengers appear on. I had just as much fun telling her. And she loved the Classic Mode bosses for the Link & Belmont lines.

My reason to her for Roy, after getting merc'd repeatedly? "Oh, he's a jerk from Fire Emblem that Sakurai added because he hates all humans, apparently" LOL

It's been a few days and I'm still making my way through...
Here's a tip for you guys! Every time you beat classic mode a new fighter will appear unless you already got the select few fighters for that charcter. For example, I played Marth's campaign 3 times because fighting [/spoiler] was so much fun, and I got Gannondorf, Lucina, and Ryu, who are all known for being strong warriors.
Also, I think this is a glitch, but unlocking a character in world of light and then playing vs. mode may prevent you from unlocking new fighters in vs. mode, but I'm not absolutely sure about that. It happened a few times, but it can still work normally. So, I would reccomend restarting the game if you just so happen to do what I said above.

Edit: Also, I think that the newcomers slowly rise in CPU level every 8 unlocks or so.
