Topic: Uninstalling faulty DLC

Hey all, got a problem that needs fixing. If you could help me or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Purchased digital game. Then purchased dlc pass. First of four waves is out. The dlc is crashing the game. Nintendo is aware and is fixing it, but it will take a while according to them. So my question is, is there any way to uninstall just the DLC? Or archive the whole thing and just reinstall the base game, without the DLC? We know that it is the dlc that is the problem (Nintendo has confirmed this). But I can’t for the life of me figure out how to separate the base game and the DLC. They were purchased separately but I cannot find the save path for the DLC - it seems to be packaged with the base game.

I’d like to play the base game until this gets resolved if this is possible. Especially since the first wave of DLC that is out is only a cosmetic upgrade with no other gameplay change. I can do without it. But right now it keeps crashing the game. Cannot even open to the main menu of the game. It crashes on selecting the title.

Anybody have anything that could possibly help?

Yes, it would help if you'd name the game.

Contact Nintendo Support about DLC issues or the Vender of the Game about the DLC issue. There nothing much users on here can do since no one on here is the Vendor of that DLC.

The game in question is Fire Emblem Three Houses. Digital copy.
So when archived or deleted and reinstalled, the dlc pack downloads right along with it.

Nintendo has been contacted and they are aware. It’s being fixed, just slowly. But until then, it would be nice to still use the base game. I was just curious if anybody knew a workaround on how to delete just dlc or prevent it from installing.

Might have figured something out!!

Back up your saves however you can. The delete the game. Then turn off auto update. Then make sure you do NOT have an SD card inserted. Then go to the Eshop and download the DLC package (all of it). Reinsert your SD card. Download the full game to the SD card. Your DLC will stay on internal memory. Remove the SD card and archive the DLC from internal memory. Reinsert the SD card and voila. Should be able to play. Then you can go to the Eshop and download only the officers outfit if you so choose.

Tested and confirmed (:

Here is somebody else who did the same.

@Markthulu
thanks! I’ll try that as well to see if that works too.

@SwitchForce
Nintendo confirmed that it was on their end. And that it affects digital copies. Physical copies are unaffected for some reason.

Can we see how they said this minus any personnel name and info blackout.

I had this same problem - over the weekend I purchased the season pass and installed all of the content, and that's when I started seeing the same issue. I followed your instructions and can confirm that this works with a small caveat - after I archived the DLC from the internal storage and inserted the microSD card with the base game downloaded onto that, it prompted me that it was missing an update and to download it. I read about this tip in another forum (can't remember so can't cite) but it seems like the costume that has already been released as item 1 of the season pass works, so I went to the eStore and downloaded ONLY that item from the season pass and then the game launched with no issues. Very important to leave auto-update software off so that it doesn't download all of the season pass content.

Kind of a pain in the ass but it saved my ass too, so worth it lol

Thanks for sharing @n7baus!
