I wouldn't create false accounts... I just see it as good news for people who want to pre-order a switch from another country. Nintendo Switch consoles will be pretty scarce for awhile.

Yes, and I never disagreed with that. That's how the Sony does it.

But like I said the account can still be region locked (only US accounts on US systems)
And the payment can still be region locked (only US credit cards on US store)
And it doesn't explain the TOS (false accounts=ban) or warranty (imported systems=no warranty)

Bother to read before you put on your not-that-complicated hat and save yourself some trouble.

Well you did disagree with what I said and you still are. So apparently it was complicated. Are you locked to a digital store from the region you set your account to? Yes. Are you required to use currency from the region specific eShop? Yes. Is your account locked to a specific system? No Is your system locked into using a digital store from the region you brought the console from? No Is your warranty void if you import? Let me spell it out, the hardware is THE SAME in each region. They likely wouldn't know even if they wanted to.

As for "false" accounts breaching the TOS. What does that have to do with anything? What constitutes a "false" account? One from a region other than the region the system is brought from? Well that won't be a thing. One for a non-user? How would they know and why would they care?

For a similar price you could have purchased someone's preorder off Ebay and had a U.S. console day one.

Instead of waiting additional time for a Brexit console that has to be reviewed by parliament before it can even be shipped out of the EU.

@Link_ToTheCraft You've certainly done alright there as £279 currently converts to $347.68 and it's not changed much for the last few weeks.Considering the banks never give you the exact exchange rate, that means you've paid less than $10 for shipping.I'm not sure about custom fees from UK to US,you might not need to pay any.I know US to UK the fees can be ridiculous but vice versa I'm not sure.I suppose it depends on your state too.

I'm persoannly in 2 minds what to do myself. If I buy it in Thailand it'll likely be US model (I'm from the UK) and currently my store doesn't know what day they'll get them or even a price yet.I have loads of US and UK Amazon gift cards so if I imported one the cards will soften the blow.I'd prefer a UK model and I have a pre-order down for the Neon one with Amazon UK but I have far more US Amazon gift cards than UK ones, enough to probably cover the whole lot.The problem there is US Amazon don't have any for pre-order haha.

Where did you get this information?

To me this seems strange, when the PS4's digital shop is region restricted by the TOS, when there's a better reason for region restricting the digital shops than physical games, i.e. publisher's rights, copyright, ratings and taxes. When importing a game, you have to take your time and follow your country's import laws. When buying digitally, you get it right in your hands right away.

If that's really the case, what's the point of region restriction at all, why not just have a unified digital shop with different language/ratings options and same prices all over?

And I'm pretty sure the hardware will be regional because of different warranty laws and for the ease of support and repair. If we're unlucky, we'll have the accounts region locked to the system. Until anyone tells me otherwise, I'm going for that only software is region free (mostly), as Nintendo first said, and what they reiterated on twitter...

There's many ways to do this, but I doubt Nintendo will be the first to break away from it all together, and I doubt they even can do it legally... Best cast imo, they go the Sony route, you'll get your account banned from breaking TOS, and you won't get warranty on imported systems.

Don't worry, I think you misunderstood slightly what I was trying to explain (but perhaps that's my fault, if I perhaps didn't explain it clearly enough). So allow me to clarify specifically what I meant...

I didn't mean it in the sense of registering it as a different country to the one you live in. (quite the opposite). What I meant is if you buy your console from a different country, you simply register your console and Nintendo account to the country you actually live in. (That way, you won't have the credit card issues, because the zip-code format will match your actual country). Therefore, you are not actually breaking any laws, TOCs, or country restrictions, because you are using the country that you are actually supposed to be using. (the one you live in).

So what I was trying to explain is that it doesn't actually matter what country you actually buy your console or cartridges from. -Simply because you can register both your console and your eShop account to your actual country when you first set those up. This gives you the benefit of making sure all games, system menus, and eShop menus are in your language, and also means that you won't have address format issues when registering your credit card, because everything works exactly the same as if you had purchased the console from your own country.

(Hopefully it makes sense now) - But let me know if you want any further clarification.

No, it makes perfect sense... Somehow I didn't get the news about how it works, and Nintendo was very specific both in the Live presentation and on Twitter that the software was region free.

Also, I'm not so sure that the hardware is region free, regarding warranty. And I wanted to give a heads up about the TOS for people who want to be careful about that stuff. But like I said, this is the best case scenario, in any case...

Yeah, warranty might be the bigger issue in that sense. That being said, when my WiiU GamePad died a while back, they weren't too helpful in being able to fix it anyway, and I ended up having to buy a new one. So I'm not really worried about warranty. Though I do wish they would sell the GamePad screens as a separate accessory like they do for everything else, as that would be alot more helpful in such situations. (though on that occasion, it was a blessing in disguise in a way, as my first WiiU was just a plain black one, so it meant I had a reason to get myself the WindWaker HD edition with the fancy looking Zelda design on the GamePad, the second time round. So that aspect of it took some of the sting away from having to have bought the whole console all over again just to replace the faulty bit.

@Ichi
To put it simply the Wii U and 3DS had region lock. But despite this you could still select which country you were in when you first set up your system. Which country you selected was limited to countries in your region. Selecting a country would only really change which eShop you had access to.

The Switch is doing the same but there are no regions anymore. The console is not region locked. I can, if I want, buy a console in Australia and set it up to connect to the Japanese eShop. And visa-versa, I could import a Switch from Japan and set it up as if I had brought it from the local shops. But once you set up an account? The region you select will line up with the digital store you are presented with. It's not a complicated concept.

Hi I have a AU account and i want to buy The Binding of Issac Rebirth which is not in my region so today i opened a U.S Account so i can purchase it but i think because the U.S asks for a -Zip Postal code- i think it creates a problem with the process as i cannot purchase the game it would ask for me to re-enter all the details with no reason.
Would anyone know why?

I don't quite understand the second part of your question. Are you saying you just need a zip code and street address?
