Vague statement but given the secrecy and history of Nintendo it looks like an affordable home console with a new feature of sorts.

Ubisoft being the big publisher they are, and being they have outright stated Just Dance is coming to the NX, would definitely know by now what the NX is.

Now Nintendo is getting the latest Legend of Zelda out the way, I wonder how long it'll be until they finally make that reveal for the NX.

I understand the whole (recapture the WII audience) phrase.
Nintendo aren't going to recapture an already captured PS4 and XBOX audience so it will be a cheap way to play Nintendo 1st party and a few 3rd party games in a novel way like the WII.
The positive thing here is that an industry executive is predicting the NX to sell well as the WII did which is good news.
Systems sold equals support given.
Now we know the NX will run the new Zelda, dragon quest, and just dance, so in my opinion it will get a FIFA and a COD which will help sell more units.

The article says "we believe that the NX will recapture a lot the lapsed Wii players. So we will see when they release it, but we are confident".

A lot, not necessarily all. Fairly vague, just a business partner speaking positively about another partner's project. Wouldn't read too much into it.

Given the announcements of Neo and Scorpio though, as I said in the 'Will NX compete with Scorpio' thread, I think a console targeting the consumer base that the Wii did, based on costs at least, is a sound move, at least in the short term.

In the longer term, I hope Nintendo wants to repeat the Wii's successes - broad appeal and large unit sales - but avoid the mistakes, principally glut of shovelware and waggle -for-waggle's-sake, which damaged the brand.

I wonder what the next big thing is going to be! Cannot wait for the reveal.

No it won't. But it's good to see them at least pledging their music game support to the NX. I guess. Sort of.

This is interesting, is it good or bad?

I think it's necessary...I doubt they're in a position to capture a sizeable enough slice of the established gaming market out of the gate to mitigate the risk of releasing a platform powerful enough to support triple-a titles...in that respect I think they need to work both ends of the equation: both making it a system that's simple to program for (or at least super-simple to port to) and working on consumer confidence & brand-perception...it doesn't need just to be able to get the job done, although obviously that's absolutely fundamental, but it also needs to look like it can get the job done and communicate that to the market in probably every aspect of its design and presentation.

Whether good or bad I guess is a value judgment and is largely going to be subjective....

...in broad terms...capturing the Wii audience at the expense of doing what Nintendo does best: probably bad. The worst thing is for Nintendo to loose it's soul...I've been critical of Nintendo in the past for being heartless in terms of their marketing and business practices, but they at least have soul, and that's something they can't afford to loose...without that, they may as well not be Nintendo.

Adjusted for inflation the Wii at launch cost $300US in 2017 dollars. Which coincidentally is the same price Microsoft intends to sell their XBOne S for. And it's also around about where the PS4 RRP sits. So in terms of the RRP at least, Nintendo doing a Wii style release again? We already have those on the market. They're called the PS4 and XBOne.

The answer to how Nintendo recaptures the Wii market is as simple as the image below (given it has 1:1 3D motion tracking). All Nintendo has to do to sell 20 million NXs next year is release Punch-Out Vs; combining the Punch-Out roster with PvP online/offline play and 1:1 motion control boxing (think of it as the real sequel to Wii Sports). Also having BotW support the controllers at launch would be amazing (given the numerous weapons and Magneto powers).

Call the new console Wii Wii (like Wii 2). Have slogans like: Invite your friends to play with your Wii Wii, If you need to Wii Wii on the road - we have you covered (imagining it is a hybrid console), or Now you're playing with Wii Wii (power).

In all honesty the remarks by Ubisoft don't mean anything. Totally agree with @gcunit

Well if this patent is anything to go by -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZwwbf07GP4
then the NX will be playable using every single controller from all of Nintendo's previous generations!!! Gamecube, N64, Snes and Nes. (No Wii U...but I guess the NX isn't replacing it lol)

@BlueSkies tbh that's what the Wii u controller should've been.
