Hi all,

I hope someone experienced what I have, or knows an explanation.

When my switch is docked after some minutes the sound on the tv stops. It is related with actually playing the game. When I go to the home menu the sound comes back slowely.

I know it is a problem with my tv, because the switch works with other tvs (also on older ones than mine). I also tried a different hdmi, neither the problem.

I can best describe the problem that it seems if the tv becomes 'overloaded' with information and it can't proces the audio anymore. If I wait and do nothing (in game or homepage) the sound comes back. Then again when I start playing the audio fades away etc.

This problem did not occured when I just bought the switch and when the system version was 1.0

So it has something to do with the system version.

Because I cannot reset this I need to find another solution, next to buying a new tv.

I hope anyone understands the issue and can come up with a solution.

Tnx in advance.

To know where to look take the dock and cable and Switch and hookup to another working TV and see if the same problem happens. You have to do some testing there to figure out where the problem lies. No one here can tell you much since they aren't to see what is happening.

@Sjoerdjans
Since you already mentioned that you know that your TV is the problem, have you tried changing various audio and/or HDMI settings (that are available to tackle the sound processing part) on your TV? Sometimes the digital audio format can be changed, but without knowing your TV's options, it's kinda hit-miss.

What's your TV make and model?

@Sjoerdjans I ran into a sound bug with my TV too, (mine was that the crappy speakers in my TV couldn't pick up certain sounds from my Switch) but I was able to avoid it by plugging in external speakers to the TV, rather than using the TV's internal speaker. So I would suggest trying that, if you have such speakers that you can use.

If that doesn't work, and you tried changing the audio settings on the TV like @Limited suggested, then you might just be out of luck.

I only have heard negative things about the most recent firmware of 6.0, thankfully I have avoided that, but even you yourself say it works on other tv's, and when left untouched, sound stabilizes, but fails again soon after starting actions, perhaps it is the cable itself and/or the ports for the HDMI, I recomend trying to borrow a newer, higher quality cable from a friend, an HDMI 2.0 optimized cable preferred, the likelihood is it could be the cable, the port or both, but don't forget to make sure the part of the cable inside the dock itself is also firmly seated

@SwitchForce Already did. Everything is working properly with the same dock and cables on other tvs. Like I said, it worked all fine with systemversion 1.0. So clearly it is a software bug but also has something to do with my tv. @Limited I think I need to find out some more advanced settings of the TV (its a DUAL brand model dl-tql32r1-001). @Heavyarms55 I have experienced some more problems with the system audio and had to plug in an external sound system. But on the moments there is sound it sound quite clear. So I don't think this is it either.

Some extra info. When the system was updates from 1.0 to 5.0 the problem did not come up directly. Just after some hours of play the sound started to stutter. From that moment on it began to worsen to the point where I am now. So, since update 5.0 the audio is like a leeking bucket. At some point the bucket is full and empties slowly. In the beginning there was enough to fill. Even now when I start playing everything works fine for 5 minutes. After that the bucket is overflowing again.

I already have send back the device to nintendo, they gave me a new HDMI cable without any difference as result.

@Sjoerdjans So have you updated to 6.0 yet? That is the latest firmware for the Switch. Honestly if it works properly on other TVs I think you might want to contact the manufacturer of your television instead. The problem might lie with them, rather than Nintendo.

@Heavyarms55 yes I have the latest update, no solution. Yes I agree with you. It is a problem with my tv. Nevertheless, it worked in 1.0 so it is possible to work for me if nintendo would fix it in a patch. I have seen multiple (sorry, no link at the moment) forum threads concerning audio problems with the 3.0 update. Nintendo tried to fix this in 4.0 but failed.

So yes my options are limited to convince nintendo in patching the 'right' firmware, find out the right tv settings or buy a new tv.

Hm, indeed, with every firmware release there are always fixes and bugs for some people.
It sounds like your TV is gettng flooded with data, but I'm really not too sure that's the issue here and I'm guessing you'd be experiencing image issues as well in this case. While at it, what resolution are you outputting to your TV from the Switch? You can try to limited the bandwidth that's being carried over and check if that helps. Also, and I'm really not sure this would help at all, what are your sound output options on the Switch? (Stereo, Mono, Surround...)

Sjoerdjans

@Limited indeed, I don't experience image issues. I can run around the screen with no lag at all. The resolution is on automatic but I once changed it to the lowest option (can't remember what exactly). I can see all the audio output options possible, automatic, surround mono and stereo. It also makes no difference. I even experience the sound issues during the sound test. I now contacted my tv manufacturer and wait for his reply.
It just looks like magic, haven't experience something like this before. I can imagine the solution can be quite easy, finding is will prove hard.

Problem solved.

I found a solution for my problem (so for anyone who will have the same problem in the future). It seemed my TV became to hot and couldn't process the HDMI input. I think the problem didn't show up in the beginning because of the game (Zelda in my case) is less detailed in the beginning (less weapons, less monsters).

So, my solution was to place a €10,- usb powered cooling fan on top of my tv.... just a small one you can use in the summer on your desk... not a fancy official fan you can instal in your computer or something like that.

Sometimes the easiest solutions are those you don't think about.

Thanks for thinking with me, and remember for the future.

@Sjoerdjans that to me would signal time for new HDTV to enjoy your gaming. If you have to put a fan on the TV that to me is telling you something. It's reaching it's lifespan and will just die without anything warnings.
