@NintendoByNature to be honest I don't think we are the only ones. I personally believe secret of mana was just seen through nostalgia for the time. I mean having an action RPG that sounds and looks that great back in the early 90's was probably a big deal.

But the game aged very poorly, and even for games like a link to the past which is fluid and the hit detection is spot on for the most part. I think if the game was more action than RPG it would be much better. The RPG elements in my opinion feel forced. And the ai is the worst I've ever seen in a video game hands down. But I am glad to hear that final fantasy adventure is good though! I really was hoping I didn't waste 40 dollars on the collection.

@Chunkboi79 I'm with you on the AI so many times my player would get stuck from progressing because a team member couldn't get around a bush or a rock. Meanwhile I'm getting pummeled or poisoned because of it. Adventure is basically links awakening lite. Its by no means as good, but it's close to and worth a 10 hour trip imo.

@NintendoByNature Okay so I wanted to follow up, you probably already tried out Trials of Mana. However, 4 hours into Trials of Mana I am absolutely loving the game! This game is what secret of Mana should have been! Now again I am only 4 hours in but the difference in quality is huge just in that time frame. The different characters, the heavier emphasis on story, the combat feeling crisp, the limited attack and wait system, and the fact the items have descriptions on them is wonderful.

Honestly, looking back on the remake of Secret of Mana. I don't think that the remake was bad because it was a bad remake. I just believe that Secret of Mana is a poor game through and through.

Secret of evermore anyone.

it's smash time people

@Chunkboi79 I haven't had a chance to try trials yet. But I'm glad it's made some adjustments. The items thing with no description on secret really was poor design. I had items in my inventory that I didn't use til second half since i didn't know what they did. I'll eventually give trials a shot.

This game wasn't even on my radar, but I just recently picked up Collection of Mana and have been playing the original... Really solid game. Total madness not releasing it in the West, I think it would have certainly given Chrono Trigger a decent challenge for the top spot.

Anyways, I'm personally pretty keen to pick up the remake now, it definitely looks like an effort more in line with the Dragon Quest remake than the Secret of Mana one. Also, it is just a much, much better game than Secret of Mana. I'm only about halfway through but it looks like it's got some decent replayability too.

Playing the demo right now. Seems pretty solid. The graphics aren't great (but they're OK) and the voice acting is horrible, but everything else is fine. Granted, this is just the demo, but I believe this will be a quite good remake.

@Quarth I could tell the voice acting was going to be awful from the trailers. Thank goodness there's dual audio.

@Ralizah Yeah, might try the Japanese voice track for this game.

The music is GREAT though!

LMAO The demo crashed almost as soon as I got started playing.

What's up with S-E and demos that crash constantly?

I quite like it. It feels like a lower budget version of Dragon Quest.

The Switch port is excellent though. Doesn't feel downgraded at all.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Is the Demo version available on both version (Switch and PS4) ?

@Anti-Matter

Here's a video comparing the demo on the two platforms.

Switch: Moderately faster load times; portability
PS4: Higher resolution visuals; 60fps

The drop to 30fps is the only noticeable sacrifice in the Switch version.

Some of the textures are a bit worse. It's noticeable on those rocks out in the world map area. Nothing too bad though.

Gaaah...!! 😫
Not again the fps difference.
Well... As my default plan, i will consider both PS4 and Switch version.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the demo, but that might partially be from the low expectations I had after playing the Secret of Mana remake. I don't think it'll end up breaking into my top 10 favorite Switch games or anything, but I'll definitely pick it up and I'm sure I'll have a good time with it.
So far it seems like they haven't messed up the music (like in thr SoM remake) and the combat transitioned pretty well. It's pretty basic, but it works while still being true to the original game.
This time I decided to go with Duran, Angela, and Riez. My original playthrough on the SNES version was Duran, Angela, and Charlotte and I wanted to stick with my original team for my first playthrough in the remake but I just can't stand Charlotte's baby talk. I'm sure the voice acting would make it even worse.

LOL
I have tried the PS4 version Demo just now.
The voice acting in English was pretty cheesy, the loading textures (characters and objects) was very noticeable.
The game run on 60 fps, looked great.

I will download the Switch version Demo after this.

Btw, what is the impact if i choose different main character and Companions ?
