Topic: Transferring User Game Ownership

I've got a potential problem on my hands. Currently I share a Switch with my younger siblings, and I was thinking of possibly eventually getting an enhanced Switch model which we know will inevitably happen. My family usually buys digital games. We usually buy them on my User to collect Gold Points with My Nintendo to save money and stuff. Some of those games are mine and are on a Micro SD card, while some others are owned by my siblings (though still purchased via my User) and on the console. So, if I were to have my own Switch I would take every digital game with me (even the ones I don't own) which, if you couldn't guess, they would be really mad about. One main problem is that I play Splatoon 2 so I can't take advantage of the Cloud Saves if I were to just buy Splatoon 2 on my new Switch meaning I would have to start at rock bottom (which isn't really ideal as I'm X rank in all modes, have some good gear, chunks and tickets, and cash) (and honestly I'd rather keep waiting all day for a turn to play Splatoon as it is than getting to play a new Splatoon save whenever). So my question is: can you transfer User digital game ownership so that I could have my games and they could keep theirs? Is there another solution? Thanks .

Purchased or downloaded on the same console I think everyone has access to it. If you get your own the digital will belong to that account to download only there is no such thing as sharing digital accounts. If you want to have a family sharing then you will need to get the physical version so each can play their own.

No. You own all of the games due to having bought them all through your account. If you wanted your siblings to own their games, then they should have purchased them through their own accounts.

If your siblings were to buy games via their own accounts, they can transfer ownership of those games (and save data) to another Switch upon transferring their user accounts.

Having multiple user accounts on a single Switch does not deprive any other users from using any of the software on the system.

You may be able to transfer ownership to your siblings' accounts by contacting Nintendo directly, but you will not be able to do it yourself.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Today I tried contacting Nintendo to do that. They said it was against their ToS.

I share a single purchasing account (mine) with my kids across two switches, and each player has an account to keep personal save files and stuff, we do it to keep billing and points on the same place. the primary switch can access all games with no issues for all users. My switch has copies of all digital games, and can be played provided that 1) It has an internet connection to check ownership and 2) No one is playing that game on the main switch.

If your OLED switch will have connection to the internet at all times (I tether my phone for that when I am out and about), and you don't really play the same games at the same time, you will be OK.

We prefer physical copies for that reason, that way we can play whatever at any time. That's why we have two copies of Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Minecraft, Animal Crossing and BoTW, and the rest of physicals get shared around. So far, it's worked well for us.

Poster beat me to it but you can't do that. Each user needs their own separate account and if you have to console there is a primary and secondary but you will have to read the Nintendo setup to do this correctly. So don't give bad info.

I did a double check to give you more info. The primary console can access any software with any user, no problem. So you can purchase games with a single account and you'll be good, any player can have an account and share downloaded games.

On the secondary console, only the account of the OWNER (ME) of the downloaded game can play it, the accounts existing on the SECONDARY switch cannot play on it. They can access their online save files if they use a physical copy on my switch.

If you get a secondary switch for yourself, Your siblings can use the PRIMARY switch to play as well with their own accounts to get to their save files. You can use a SECONDARY switch to play anything you bought on YOUR CENTRAL BILLING ACCOUNT like I do, so I have access to the entire online library, but that will be treated as your personal switch and no other user can play there because they do not own the games.

To me is not an issue because my kids play on the PRIMARY switch and share it, and I use my SECONDARY switch as only mine, so we can share. If this is going to be your situation from now own you will be fine with the hassle of having YOUR switch connecting to the Internet, and from now on, it will be recommended that your siblings start purchasing games on their own accounts so they get ownership of upcoming games.

And of course, physicals can get shared around as you wish since physicals are not tied to a specific console and if you link accounts to your siblings, they can access online save files on any switch.

Hope this clarification helps you out.

So does that mean you have to load the Physical on each system for the Owner on both Primary and Seconday along with DLC for the Secondary to use those there as well? AFAIK there is no online save file there is cloud save but are we talking the same thing here? If memory serves me Cloud NSO requires a Family account to access? And for single only that paid registered account can use that. So did you get a NSO family account?

@SwitchForce Physicals work as always. One copy per cart, the person in possession plays it, there is no cart cloning. You want to play on two switches at the same time, you need two copies. The DLC can be used on the primary by ANYONE and on the SECONDARY by the OWNER ONLY.

With DIGITAL, all users on the PRIMARY switch can use the software. On the SECONDARY only the OWNER can use it and you need an internet connection to check if the software can be played. If someone is using it on the PRIMARY then you can't play, other wise you are good to play if you are the OWNER, no other account can play DIGITAL on the secondary.

As I understand, cloud save works for each account that is paying NSO. (Could be individual or family, we have family and 3 accounts and each gets their cloud saves) regardless of the game being physical or digital.

That's why we prefer physical. It may be a hassle to carry carts and if it's popular for us like Mario Kart, Smash Bros or BTOW we have two copies. With that, you can play on any switch, there is no online check and your cloud saves are always available and up to date so it does not matter which switch is used to play.
