I am thinking about picking up this game. Does anyone know if there will be physical copy for Tiny Metal?
I prefer to have physical box rather than eshop download.

I haven't heard if they are releasing it on cartridge, but I certainly hope they do. I prefer to get my games in physical form whenever possible.

I didn't realise this was coming next week. I'll wait for reviews before I purchase but I'm fairly confident this is going to be another quality game for Switch. I mean it's Advance Wars with good graphics and it's developed by (IIrc) one of Sony's new indie studios.

I backed this on KickStarter (which actually failed), but I've followed it ever since and can't wait to get hold of it.

I hope this gets a review soon. If it's a quality AW clone, I'll definitely buy it. Not very many good strategy games on the system yet.

Am I right in saying this arrives next week? A good AW type game together with Mantis Burn Racing would make me very happy. The Switch has so many genres covered, something that the Wii U never even come close to achieving. There was an overhead racer but it was very average. I don't remember there being a tactical game like AW though. I did buy AW on VC though and played it solely on the Gamepad which was superb.

I already have so many games I am playing right now, but if this gets a good review I can't pass it up. Especially when Wargroove was delayed until next year!

Tiny Metal has been delayed to allow the developers to give it a bit of spit and polish. It's now coming out on December 21st.

Delayed at the last moment. That's too bad. Unfortunately, I'll likely be busy with other games in December, so I'll just pass on Tiny Metal for this year.

I'm ok with that. Still working on FE warriors (which I'm loving btw) so by the time I'm done Tiny Metal will swoop in and save the day!

The absolute last minute delay is extremely suspicious in that it coincides with a controversial claim that the lead on Tiny Metal used a fraud kickstarter campaign (Project Phoenix) to siphon funds for Tiny Metal development so as to avoid needing upfront investors (which they acquired after using up those KS funds).

This is interesting in that they seemed to hide the colloaration between projects, announcing in April through KS that the team was undergoing a small side project and then waiting until August to clarify their work on Tiny Metal. Meanwhile nothing has been seen of Project Phoenix except dubious KS updates.

For their part the Tiny Metal people claim this is the result of a disgruntled firmer employee and nothing more, but their defense hasn't been convincing and there is significant support for the character of the person(s) in question.

Now considering this week their Twitter claimed "7 days" to go and now suddenly it's been delayed a monrh... Hard not to be a little skeptical .

The email, in full (as I was a KS supporter), states -

[quote]
To all of our supporters and fans,

We were looking forward to the release of Tiny Metal on Tuesday, November 21st, however we have chosen to delay the release until December 21st. We, alongside with our publisher UNTIES, want to make the best TINY METAL experience that we could upon launch.

Originally, we had only planned for English and Japanese versions of the game. In the spirit of inclusion, and from a lot of feedback, we're changing it so that the French, Italian, German, and Spanish localizations that we had originally planned as part of the game's first update will instead be available at launch. We also needed to redo the English text due to the poor job that a former team member did with localizing the original Japanese dialogue, which required us to go back and review & re-translate the entire script to be more accurate, stay faithful to the game's story, and remove changes that had been made without permission. This along with potential QA issues that came in parcel with the increased number of languages that we planned to include led us, and our publisher UNTIES, to ultimately decide to delay the game. After having spent over two years on the development of this game, we wanted the game's story to be consistent as well as have it be enjoyed by as many people as possible on day one.

We're also expanding the content of TINY METAL, upping the map count to over 50 skirmish missions now with an estimated time playtime of over 100 hours, all of which is in addition to the campaign/story mode.

From the staff of TINY METAL, we’re sorry for the delay and we thank you for your patience. We'll have Steam pre-ordering and wishlisting up soon (and will let you know with an announcement when that's ready), and we want to give everyone the most polished and accessible version of the game possible. People have been waiting for strong Japanese-developed turn-based war strategy games for more than 9 long years, and you won't have to wait much longer!

This was originally an edit, but my previous post became so long I made a new one:

Additionally in announcing said small project they asserted that if it was a success they would be able to encourage more investment in PP. Which is essentially supporting the claim that the KS was at best misleading, in that even if they intended to make PP they knew they didn't have the proper funding. Guilty of mismanagement or selling snake oil?

Sounds to me like a veiled admission that those KS funds are supporting Tiny Metal in hopes of a bigger payoff. Theoretically that payoff would go to making PP. Which is in a sense fraud, but how serious?

I doubt kickstarters can be held accountable unfortunately, but if they have other private investors on PP whose investments have been misused or unknowingly siphoned... Then they have a real problem and people who are going to want answers.

What's the credibility of the ex employee though? I think they responded to all this and basically said the guy is a joke and they fired him and he's been fired from multiple jobs before, he got a severance package and presumably is doing this out of spite or because they refuse to give more?

Idk. Not sure if I buy it, but it's certainly worth considering, at the very least.

Sets of competing claims. Could be a disgruntled employee attempting to damage the credibility of his co-workers. Could be a whisleblower exposing genuine corruption. Hell, the whole thing could be a huge misunderstanding.

As of yet, we don't really know the facts, though.

@Ralizah
I suspect the guy is a real piece of work like they say. I believe it when they say he got fired and didn't "leave" and all the other things they've leveled against him.

However, just because he's scummy doesn't mean he's lying. In fact, I've seen his type before. Real piece of work, and is telling on them out of spite. Truthfully telling on them out of spite. So basically, I think they're probably not wrong about him, but at the same time it doesn't mean he's lying. In fact, that sort of personal character speaks to the likelihood he would take advantage of such information to spite them.

It is hard to estimate what's going on. For me, It is possible that in some rough moment Tiny Metal Dev took some relatively small amount (like 15%) of money from PP in hope they will take some more investment on Tiny Metal in future and gave the money back to PP later. Still this is a criminal and can be serious.

But as for me - unless there is no official proceeding by authorities in the case, there is no case. If the accusations are true, there should be plenty of evidences and witnesses to find.
I hope both games will be made and will be good titles.
