What are your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Online Service and what do you think they should add in the future?
Do you want the features that have already been announced to come sooner or do you want Nintendo to fully develop the features so that they work well when the update for the Online Service releases?
With the Nintendo Direct coming on Wednesday (or Thursday depending on where you are) I think we could see some major announcements about online play as the Direct is focused on two games which will rely heavily on it, Splatoon 2 and ARMS.
What do you make of the announcements they have made for the service already and do you think they are good or bad?
I personally like the service to be robust first. Server issues and whatnot should not be allowed to happen. Especially since there's loads of scaling that can account for it.
Also, things like waiting 2 minutes in splatoon just to get an eighth player is a no go. There are plenty people, make it fast
I hope that it means that online games can 'stay alive' longer I played Mario Kart Wii right up until the day they shut the servers down - not criticising their decision, it hardly made business sense to keep them running - but I'd have happily paid for the privilege if it meant keeping the game online for a few more years!
I also hope that the app for the online service is simple, clean, stable, easy to use and accessible - with as many older OS's compatible as possible. If the app is just for chat and lobby management, there's no reason why it couldn't be designed to run on older/cheaper smart phones - one of my pet peeve's is when an app has unnecessary features added to it that cause it to become unnecessarily incompatible with older/cheaper devices (eg. there was recently a companion app for a TV show where I'm from which had a game shoe-horned in to it for no apparent reason - nobody played the silly game, but the fact that it was on the app made it incompatible with certain devices **face-palm**) ...I'd rather it be functional than flashy!
...other than that, I think that - from what we know so far - it all sounds decent I'm happy to pay, I'm happy that there's chat functionality, the free-for-a-month NES/SNES (w/ added online multiplayer) games are a nice touch - I'm cautiously optimistic!
@FGPackers Oh yeah, I totally agree - it'd just be a shame if you couldn't chat with a friend because the app was incompatible with his/her smartphone...hopefully it's just a nice, simple, functional little app - available on as wide a range of devices as possible - to allow as many players to chat with eachother as possible

Do we think Mario Kart will launch without voice chat available? Is it likely to be in place before Splatoon 2?
Hoping for some certainty from the Nintendo Direct, I'd be disappointed to not hear about the game plan/timeline - even if there features aren't coming immediately.
I know Nintendo won't be charging for these features yet, but they can test them out on early adopters while there are fewer consoles out there.
@JoeDiddley
Definitely a "no" on the voice chat for MK8.
As for gameplan and stuff for the online, I don't know if they'll say anything tonight. Part of me gets the impression they're gonna keep this stuff under wraps until the last possible moment and then spring it on us, because that seems to be their method of operation.
But then again, if they think they have something cool for their online features, this could be the perfect time to really stoke the fire leading into the final weeks before Mario Kart.
If you gotta use your phone to chat, I hope the app itself is robust enough to make it worth using S opposed to something like Skype.
For the service itself, they really have to show me why paying for it will make it better than the free online we had with the wii u and 3DS. I never really had problems with those, and if I did it was because of my own or someone else's Internet connection. I highly doubt they'll be doing dedicated servers now so I'd like to see some proof that my money leads to a better service.
I understand that they have to charge for this service. But they HAVE to include something else like xbox and sony does. something like a free trial of an A-list title or a free classic game which you KEEP.
