Firstly my issue is with pricing. Namco is $30 and £30 which isn't at all fair, Overcooked is $20/£18 which again isn't fair at all (especially as it was confirmed to be £16 and it was £16 on the other consoles at launch) and then moving on we have the 2 games I was really looking forward to this week (RCRDX and Phantom Trigger) got pushed back out of the blue.
They've even pushed back games like Infinite Golf which launched on every other system this week.
And 1 of these issues could've been solved had I not been flat broke, I just traded in games purely to fund my purchases this week but I'd have MUCH rather bought them from my Murican account and saved myself a good £10 in the process.
Ninty need to start doing fairer prices for Europe and they need to stop pushing games back on a whim and pulling surprise releases on us too.
I went from thinking I was getting Phantom Trigger this week to buying Overcooked. It doesn't look professional and as many devs have confirmed to NLife it is the Big N who does these eShop delays.
@PAHTK I agree the European prices seem unfair but that's more to do with our weak currencies than the devs being greedy. All my purchases so far have been in the US Eshop and its saved me a fair bit. If the Pound and Euro recover but prices stay the same as they are now then the savings buying from US Eshop will be even greater.
@PAHTK I agree, I felt this problem a lot in the Wii and Wii U days. That was the driving force (apart from the Zelda box art) that drove me to buy an NA version of the Switch and following games. PAL was always expensive and will continue to be sadly. And it's not just Nintendo who does this currency switch method of pricing unfortunately.

Do people in the US have to pay tax over the $30 you mentioned? That's why US pricing always confuses me, because they don't include tax. A game can be $59.99, but you end up paying a lot more I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I'm not used to those weird archaic practices.
Damn - yeah, just checked the UK eShop...Overcooked: £17.99 (could've sworn it was previously confirmed to be £15.99 - even just a few days ago?! :/) ..also, what happened to Stardew Valley? Shouldn't that have been released by now?? (I had it penciled in as a potential summer purchase)
Not the end of the world, but some clarity would be nice..

I recently purchased a $20 Nintendo eshop card because I was planning on downloading a $19.99 game. I then noticed there was also tax after I imputed my zip code and I was forced to but another eshop card just to complete the purchase. Quite annoying.
@Octane Yes, but the tax rate depends on where you live. For example, where I live, my sales tax rate is 6% of the original MSRP, but it is about 9% in NYC.

None of that is on Nintendo; developers set their own prices (it's why Death Squared, for example, is cheaper on the Switch than on other platforms) and those games that have been delayed last minute is because they haven't passed or are still in testing. Phantom Trigger has also been delayed because it's still in testing: https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/6nqvaf/heres...

Guess I'm a little lucky. Here in Missouri, I've never had to pay taxes on digital purchases, whether it be games on eShop (3DS at least, don't have a Switch), Android, or movies on Amazon Video (I do know that Amazon has started charging taxes on physical goods earlier this year, not sure if they do on digital goods).

Weird, maybe it's state-specific, then. I never had to pay for tax on anything digital.

How do you buy from the US eShop? Can you buy from the Japanese one too?

when you create your Nintendo Account you pick the region(country)
funding it is where it gets more tricky as the funding source needs to be from the same region.
So you have to find an online site that sells eShop codes for the different regions
Ya know, I'm fairly certain that I must be paying the usual sales tax on digital purchases, but honestly I can't say for sure. I may buy something later today, and I'll make sure to pay attention.
Like I said in the other thread, sales tax in my state is 6%. On big purchases, yea - it sucks. But for games and stuff around this price point, it's just another couple bucks. Usually not enough to justify the price differences you guys are talking about in the EU. Doesn't seem fair at all from a US perspective.

Depends on the state. I pay about $65 a game
