Nintendo has said that the NX is going to be something new and different than prior systems. Well, I think my I may have a an idea as to what that will mean. I think, the gimmick this time around, is customization. What do I mean by this? Well, most of the NX's basic features are just default apps you can swap out. Messager, Friends manager, chat, Web browser, file Explorer, keyboard and even the UI are all accessd through apps that are replaceable. Don't like the stock friends manager app Nintendo gives you? A quick visit to the eShop can help you find a 3rd party one you like. Games can also add software customizations to the OS that can be toggled by the user. For example, Mario Kart could give you the option to not only receive notifications, but also install a ghost tracker feature of the NX OS that will allow to check and race ghosts of other players in the vicinity, whether you're playing the game, or not.

But the biggest draw, would be the controller. A rectangular PS Vita device which even that can be changed. With replaceable sticks, and D-pad. Like the Xbox One Elite controller, only expanded upon and made more consumer friendly. The biggest thing you can change, is the front and back. The face of the controller can be swapped out with various add-ons like a Free-form screen attachment, physical keyboard attachment. The back can be swapped out with different shoulder button replacements like those panted scroll wheels. If that wasn't enough, you can also purchase different 1st and 3rd party control kits to change your controller. You can purchase the controller with various pre-set configurations from both Nintendo and 3rd party distributors. In short, the NX let's you make your gaming experience, yours.

Why do I think customization? Well, that's been Nintendo's fixation for years now. Mii's, Flipnote, Mario Maker, the Inklings, Smash Bros., Robin from FE:A, the 3DS themes, loadouts, and badges from the Nintendo badge arcade. So it wouldn't surprise me if they cut out the middle man and build an entire gaming platform around customization.
