HD development means you get fewer new 1st party games irrelevant of whether there's ports or not compared with SD systems. Nintendo mostly chose droughts in the Wii U era (the Zelda remasters happening while BotW development was ongoing being the exception) where in the Switch era they chose ports.
Meanwhile Sony and Microsoft get so much 3rd party support that droughts isn't even an option. For example XB1 had 3 1st party games this year (Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Forza Horizon 4) but with all the 3rd party games released for it and MCC being fixed you wouldn't exactly say 2018 was a terrible year for XB1.
I love good games and I love to be able to play them all on one system. I'm past the age that it's cool to have 5 game consoles hooked to your tv. I love it that this one console has such a diverse catalogue of games to offer and I love to be able to take them with me on the go.

This so much. It's why I don't buy any other console, why the NES/SNES Minis didn't do anything for me, why even though my 3DS is still good I have most of my 3DS games packed in the attic.
I am trying to eliminate clutter so I can have a serene and homey house, not look like a sound engineer's workroom. One of the Switch's chief advantages is that it's unobtrusive and integrates seamlessly into my home life. The less I have to connect other systems to play the games I love, the better it is.

@JasmineDragon@toiletduck Agreed, wholeheartedly. I consolidated my collections years ago, I’m much more minimalist with my material items now. I’ve got the Switch and WiiU tucked in a glass door cabinet under my tv and that’s all I want to see. Different strokes for different folks and all that, but I enjoy having as much of my media concentrated on as few devices as possible.

@Cobalt Yeah I mean if people love old games that is a great thing IMO, I also love old games but then again that is why I kept my old game consoles around. It seems like the demand for ports for everything is largely coming from this niche group of gamers who want the Switch to be a place to go for everything old as opposed to a console that stands out for it's own unique library.
@JayJ You making people up in your head now lol. I was asking for Katamri Damacy all last year and can't tell you how happy I am it's on Switch. Does that mean I don't want new games? No, don't be silly, but how do you ask for something you don't even know exists? How could I ask for Octopath Traveller without having to design the bloody thing in my own head first lol. I fear you are making a mountain out of a molehill mate. Seriously, don't worry about ports and let folk enjoy their fave games. People are being born everyday that haven't played any games. A good game is a good game.

To tell you, without ports, I CANNOT play Portal Knights, Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles, Overcooked, Dragon Quest Builders, Go Vacation, etc on Nintendo Switch.
Also, i cannot play The Sims 4 on PS4 if the PC version has never been ported on consoles.

I have been hoping (or begging, to stay on subject) for Amiga games ever since C64 was available on Wii VC, Amiga VC would have been the logical next step, such a shame.
I do have an A500 in my loft boxed away, along with many other consoles, but I do not have the space or the plug sockets to have them hooked up. (For example, my Megadrive / Mega CD / 32x takes up 3 plugs, that can’t be next to each over on an Extension Chord cause they are too chunky)
You know what really annoys me - I have the VHS of Citizen Kane and I see so many people saying they want it available on Blu Ray or on Netflix. It disgusts me - if they want to watch it they can always buy a VCR (they’re cheap and you can buy a box of films for pennies). the port begging has to stop.
Oh and don’t get me started on George Lucas. I had a “definitive” VHS box set of the original Star Wars trilogy that became worthless once he released the DVD versions. Way to reward your most loyal fans George!

@StuTwo lets stop with false equivalence here. You can get your VHS converted to DVD by yourself or a Audio shop can do this for you. This is what annoys the most making bad analogies is the worst going here.
@StuTwo Isn't DVD a more stable format than VHS though? (at least when properly handled. Yes, if you slap greasy fingers on the surface of the disc, you'll ruin it faster than a VHS tape)
That matters more to me than the picture quality upgrade. I bought a lot of movies on DVD but don't feel the need to buy them again on Blu-Ray.
Have people forgotten that VCRs were known to rip tapes when they got in a particularly vengeful mood? (and also, the tape degrading after you watch the movie like 100 times or whatever it takes)
@Cobalt Well said. If you want loads of ports good for you, but I don't see why we should all be forced to have nothing besides best-of albums for the rest of time just because someone refuses to buy any of the hit albums that are easily obtained. Some of us like having new things and get tired of the same old stuff all the time.
