I get that everyone wants a part of the Switch pie but these games really scratch the bottom of the barrel to run. The environment is a low, blurry texture hell and the game runs pretty rough whenever something happens.
Seems to linger around 540p handheld/720p docked, which is about what I expected. Also drops to Xenoblade 2 levels of low res in handheld, apparently.
Did Virtuos lie just to squeeze in some extra pre-orders or something?
We'll see how the game looks and runs after being patched, though. I hear it's receiving a pretty big day one update. Might make the difference. We'll see.
Oof, I was looking forward to try this, but this is pretty bad. Lets hope they fix it at some point... There is too many other games to play on the switch right now anyway, so no biggie.
Is my memory deceiving me, or was this site running Outer Worlds ads recently?
The day 1 patch sounds too big for those interested in having a playable version all on the cart. I think I'm going to leave this one alone for now and see how the dust settles.
@gcunit They were originally going to make this one of those games that requires a download to run properly. I think they still basically did that, except they apparently lumped all of the textures into an optional update or something, lol.
If that's the case, though, then it makes for some REALLY bad pre-release reviews.
I've only been playing for a little while so far, but it doesn't seem too bad to me. About on par with what I was expecting... I wonder if the additional textures are included in the patch or if they will be an optional download via the eShop tomorrow when the game officially releases
@gcunit Thanks. To be fair, I just watched the DF video and what they showed did seem worse than what I experienced and they explicitly mention it gets worse and worse the further into the game you get, so I think I might not have got far enough into the game to pass judgement yet. The little I have played seems mostly ok though. That said, I had mentally prepared myself for a disaster.
I was planning on getting this game today, but after hearing about the performance issues, I'm not longer so sure. I don't care about the graphical downgrade, as that is to be expected and as long as the game runs well, which doesn't seem to be the case here. I will wait and see if the updates fixes some of these issues. If it gets improved, I might reconsider. Right now it feels like I'm better off picking up Clubhouse Games and BioShock.
I was planning on waiting for the game anyway since I'm waiting to buy a new SD card. Heard there's an update planned.
I've also learned my lesson, DF is all knowing and indisputable. They say the port is bad, so I will wait. It's quite a bummer, because this is the spiritual successor to Fallout New Vegas, which I loved and consider the best Fallout game. (Another opinion people want to flay me for, I'm sure.)

That's a real shame. I wasn't planning on getting it soon (just because of many other Switch games I've needed to get to for a while now), so I hope they can improve things with patches.
@Zeldafan79 It’s very much like Fallout (Obsidian developed the game, who also created New Vegas). But it is actually kind of similar to Mass Effect in a number of areas. You build your own crew and the story, character interactions and alien planet exploration gave me Mass Effect vibes.
@Zeldafan79 Cool! Just know that the port itself isn’t the greatest. But if you can handle blurry visuals and a rather choppy framerate, then by all means give it a shot. I’d suggest watching some footage of the Switch version in action to see if you’d be okay with the sacrifices. The game is phenomenal regardless.
Any word on the day one patch? Does it work miracles?
No. The "day one" patch has been live for days and that is the version most reviewers played (Digital Foundry definitely did, as their version matches the currently available version).
Its such a shame. This went from a 'must buy' to something I probably wont even buy in a sale for me.
You never know, they might fix the problems in future patches, but for now I'll have to find my first person satire of capitalism and corporate culture fix somewhere else.... Maybe I'll go read some EA press releases.

Ah well, guess I'll wait for it to come to Steam and get it for PC.
