Topic: The NX's Reveal - At E3 or Before?

We know Nintendo is going to reveal the NX next year. However, when should they reveal it - at an event before E3 like Sony and Microsoft did with the PS4 and XB1, or at E3?

Well, looking at the Wii U and 3DS, they both used E3 but announced the appearance of the hardware before. So that would be the easiest response. Now that Nintendo has directs, however, this could possibly change. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to do a direct detailing on it and revealing it, but I feel like E3 is a better move as it will bring more media attention.

True, though it could be argued that a new hardware reveal would draw media attention anyways. Also, if Nintendo were to reveal NX before E3, they'd make damn sure to make a special event out of it. I doubt they'd just randomly reveal it in a Direct haha. Perhaps the reveal would be in a special Direct, perhaps even the first "Nintendo Direct Live".

If they do reveal it at E3, then it'll take up time that could be dedicated for games. Also, they'd likely do a press conference instead of a Digital Event, which slightly bums me out as I love the Digital Event format (just needs to be executed properly like E3 2014 and not like E3 2015 ). Although, I do suppose they could do the press conference at E3 for the NX and its games and then a separate Digital Event for Wii U and 3DS games (mostly for the 3DS I'd assume, as that has quite a few games to go still, while all of the Wii U games we know of other than Zelda will be out by then).

I feel like I'd prefer them to have an NX reveal event prior to E3 sometime in mid-May where they can get hardware and firmware stuff out of the way along with a couple game reveals and then a "stay tuned to E3 2016 for more reveals" at the end. Then at E3 they can have a Digital Event dedicated to games for the NX.

With the directs I'd say that the best strategy would be to show off the hardware before hand. Explain what the hardware is and why the hardware itself is a necessary upgrade. Then use E3 to talk about content.

It's hard for me to envision a hardware reveal at E3 like the old conference days. They've moved away from those presentations and still command plenty of press/social media presence. I think they'll do their own hardware Direct shortly before E3

In a way they already did that with the Wii U, even if the system had been unveiled a year before. A direct dedicated to the features of the system and a full press conference dedicated to the titles coming at launch or in the near future. I could see similar being done with NX, but on a grander scale.

Probably. Although, I think a press conference is out of the question unless they are revealing the NX at E3. It's probably a Direct for the reveal, and then a Digital Event at E3 for the games. Then they might have a separate Direct before or after E3 for the 3DS and Wii U. Or perhaps they could have two Digital Events at E3 - one on NX games, the other on 3DS and Wii U games.

My guess is that they will tease some of their thoughts at an investor's briefing, and they will make the big reveal at E3.

But of course it will leak prior.

I told you all that the WII U woulnd't last long. Glad I sold mine. No future within this system. Feeling bad for the fans, but you are a bit to blame as well since you've accepted a weak hardware as this. Nintendo thought they could get a way with their name and loyal fans. But the truth is people are more aware of the weak hardware they have keep giving the last past 10 years. They have to make up with the NX if they want true gamers back. Sorry bout it

I hope they reveal it before E3, because then they can use the entire E3 for their games. If they reveal it at their E3 Digital event, 90% will be about the hardware, not the games.

I wish Nintendo would come out all guns blazing, with an awsome reveal of a powerhouse console. But heres the real dream! They actually tell us the hardware specs straight away so as customers we can decide if its a sensible buy, and developer's can feel happy with it.
