Topic: The NX, how should it be marketed?

How do you think Nintendo should market the NX? Assuming they learned from their mistakes with the Wii U, here's what Nintendo should do.

1.) Court younger gamers, but in a broader sense of the term - The average gamer is currently 35, and is only going to get older. Nintendo lost this audience to Sony and Microsoft years ago, no sense in chasing the competition now. Instead, focus on raising a new generation of gamers. Kids who have grown up and ready for something more advanced than the Wii U/3DS, families, teenage girls, and college students. Which leads me to....

2.) Advertise agressively - Let's be honest, the Wii U has barely been advertised throughout it's life, it's time for Nintendo to change that. Make deals with companies, run ads on ABC Family, MTV, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, HGTV, Maybe ESPN.

3.) Showcase a variety of software - don't just show off 1st party games or kiddie games, if you want to reach a broad audience, then show it. Show platformers, Skylanders for the kids, Mario Kart for family, RPGs or fighters for older youth. Show people that this system is for everyone.

4.) Market the portable variant as a mobile gaming device - Since the term handheld is losing relevance, market the the NX portable variant as a mobile gaming device. It's a term people are already familiar with, and with interconnectivity to smart-devices, it makes it seem more like a companion to a phone or tablet rather than a hinderence.

So, your thought's?

1. No whack names. Keep it simple and communicate the legacy of the brand with something like NES7/NS7.

2. Market it as a social (online) platform the way Sony did the PS4 at launch. Begin the commercial with a group of friends playing N64 together as teens, transition to them playing NX together in a living room, end the match, and cut back to reveal that they were all in different living rooms in different states.

3. Advertise on evening, adult shows to consumers with wallets.

4. Focus on variety of genres in the software lineup instead of wall-to-wall cartoon sidescrollers and party games. Give us some sports, some fighters, some racing, and some shooters too.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Nintendo is trying to avoid, because Wii U already does that by 8th generation standards. Even Microsoft and Sony aren't getting all the games running at 1080, so I guess there needs to be a PX and XX to look forward too, otherwise they are doomed.

1. The console needs to have a clear purpose, especially if they're doing another gimmick. Demonstrate what it's capable of and why it's a necessary purchase.
2. Market the console as something that can appeal to both kids and older players with a more varied lineup. No one wants to see bright and colorful games all of the time. That's not to say that they shouldn't do colorful games at all, but they should throw in a Metroid or an F-Zero along with the usual Mario and friends.
3. Show that the console is a technical powerhouse and/or easy to port games to so that we can get some more third party games back.

In terms of television advertising, they're pretty much fine, or at least where I live. I see Nintendo ads fairly frequently on Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and Comedy Central.

Basically do this again.

Notice a few things:
1. There isn't one particular group that is the explicit focus
2. 3rd party games are advertised
3. It shows a wide variety of fun. Group fun, individual fun, novelty fun, etc.

Nintendo hit a home run with this ad campaign. They have been in a horrible slump since then though.
