@Octane I don’t mind the ports as such, just the price of them and the fact that there is very little to differentiate the Wii U and Switch versions. If I didn’t have a Wii U, I would openly welcome them, but at the same time, I’d also acknowledge that there is not quite as much for prior Wii U owners to look forward too.

@Snaplocket I have bought Gravity Rush Remastered, Tearaway Unfolded as well as Ratchet & Clank and Shadow of the Colossus. I remember paying £30 (or less) for each title because I sincerely wouldn’t pay £55 for them.

I don’t think think it is a case of “bias rose-tinted glasses”, for whatever reason you felt compelled to type that out, because I know I paid £30 or less for them on the day they all came out. I think @Octane has bought the very same games at €40 or less as I did too.

I do remember God of War Remastered being dearer than $40 in the US for whatever reason, but that really does appears to be the outlier example.

I am beginning to believe that you are speaking of third party ports/remasters, not the first party games I have mentioned... am I right?

People complain because Switch has too many Wii U ports.
I complain because (TES aside, since I LOVE TES) there are too many third parties games and indie games on Switch compared to Nintendo ones, expecially compared to OLDER Nintendo ones.
I want ports from SuperNes, from Gameboy, from Wii, from Gamecube. And from Megadrive too, after Wii Virtual console it is like Megadrive games belong to Nintendo for me.
Older games are awesome and are also a lot safer. I already know I LOVE them. I already know WHICH ones I love.
You give me Mario Odyssey. Yes, Odyssey is great fun and all, but Mario Galaxy is better. You give me Breath of the wild. I'm not impressed. I still think about how much I love Twilight princess.
And please don't bother me telling me that there are other consoles where I can play those games. I already have those consoles, but I don't want to use them anymore. Switch is too much better, it is too awesome for me to get back to something else.
Ports are good.
Older than Wii U ports would be even better if you ask me.

Also like how everyone IMMEDIATELY assumes Smash Switch is a port without a lick of actual evidence besides the "2018" date (Which I bet 20 bucks is gonna be delayed to 2019 anyway)

I'll take that bet.

@Peek-a-boo Yeah, that's true. At least there's plenty of new games to look forward to this year, and E3 is around the corner! (time flies!)

@Peek-a-boo Gravity Rush and Teraway were ports of PS Vita games, that's the only they weren't full price. Not to mention there were plenty of Vita games released on Steam and PS4 that nevertheless costed full price anyway. It's all about business. Just because they're first-party doesn't change anything. They release Wii U ports because they know those that don't own a Wii U won't mind full price and those that did are the vocal minority. Yes, I'm part of that small slice that got a Wii U and a lot of games for it and I personally don't feel cheated or gimped that a lot of games are bring ported. That's because the new games that ARE coming out I'm genuinely interested in and there are plenty of third-party alternatives.

@gcunit You're on!

@Snaplocket I didn't own a Wii U and the message of a system that is selling "old" games for full price doesn't resonate with me. I can buy old games on any machine. Ports are all good, but I bought a new console to play new and original games. There aren't enough at the moment. Drawing comparisons to other consoles that were bad doesn't excuse either.

Octane

@Snaplocket What games are you talking about though? The only game that was €60 was The Uncharted Collection, and that was three games in one! Sony can't control whatever a third party decided to price their games at, so that's an unfair comparison if you want to make one.

Bandai Namco could've asked €60 for the Dark Souls remaster, and I would've said it was too much as well. But that's just how I feel. It's €20 on Steam, so €40 for a remaster is an acceptable price I think, €60 is too much.

@Shellcore Here's the thing, even if these ports weren't made, we wouldn't be getting more unique games as a result. These ports are usually made by smaller teams and made really fast. When it came to ARMS, the option was either Mario Kart 9 (at launch, we may still get a new game) or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe AND ARMs. I highly doubt we'd be getting more games if there were less ports. Also, gaming is a business, to make money. Most people (as in, the ones who never bought a Wii U) will pay full price because they're great games that arguably deserve it. Would it be nice if I could buy them at a lower price? Yes, but I still wouldn't be double dipping because I already own most of these games on Wii U. I understand you're frustration but honestly this is just the day and age we live in.

I'll happily pay $60 for a remaster if it's a two-game or trilogy bundle or if there's a comparable amount of worthwhile content in there like with Skyrim. But... that's the thing, first party Wii U games scream budget limitations, scream rushed development. It's saying "Hey, pay $60 for a 'remaster' that looks like Hyrule Warriors. One that has the UI of Pokken." And they look even less marginally better than 7th gen games coming to PS4, so what justifies them being more expensive?

I'm interested in the other ports, but $240 is a lot of sticker shock for 4-year-old games that aren't names like Mario Kart or Smash.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Snaplocket

@Haru17 Wii U games were definitely not rushed. Most First Party Wii U games look way way better then PS4 titles. If you don't want them just don't buy them. They also have plenty of content.

Dude, we JUST got Smash Bros announced last night.

And yes, Sakurai confirmed on Twitter he's involved with the new game.

Fire Emblem
Super Smash Bros
Bayonetta 3
Yoshi
Metroid Prime 4
Pokemon
Kirby Star Allies
Mario Tennis Aces
Octopath Traveller
No More Heroes

On top of

Zelda Breath of the Wild
ARMS
Splatoon 2
Mario Rabbids
Fire Emblem Warriors
Super Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles 2

We've almost got as many new worthwhile exclusive games released and announced than the Wii U got its entire lifespan

Ports are just a cherry on top and easily doubles the amount of great games.

Unreal when I see people write off entire droves of excellent games simply because once upon a time they existed on another platform. It's nonsense. Even more ridiculous to see people ignore all the new games while complaining about those that aren't

NOW PLAYING
NS: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Final Fantasy XV, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Torna
N3DS:
PS4pro:
PSVR:
Vita:
X1X:
PC/Rift:
GPD Win 2: Dragon Age Origins, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance

Jesus is Lord.

@JaxonH Hear, hear! I'll just throw in Shin Megami Tensei V in there too, because someone ought to.

@Haru17 I wasn't being sarcastic, aside from the super big budget games, they do look much better then the majority of PS4 games (and yes that includes ports because they make up roughly half it's library).

And here we see the inevitable fallout of salt and arguments from anything Nintendo does.

So see you all in a few days when we can just get back to enjoying games.

@Haru17 I don't care, it's still an amazing looking and really fun game. BOTW is on it. There plenty of huge games on it.

You forgot to mention that some of those same people are also, ironically, some of the ones begging for VC, which is literally all ports via emulation. I get a kick out of these ones the most ;D

@Snaplocket Think we are on the same page. Arguing that ports are fine as long as there are new and original games forming the backbone of the release schedule. I appreciate that ports aren't taking the place of these games. The price is extortionate, but not my main concern. Not enough new and original games is.
