@NorseGamerTommy I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with a single thing you said. BOTW is the best Zelda game by a mile (imo).

You can hardly call it ''stale'' when the last good Zelda with proper dungeons came out 13 years ago

Hey man, A Link Between Worlds had some great dungeons, very focused with little necessity for backtracking. It really showed what they could do with dungeon design when they know you should have every tool you need going into it, instead of designing them around an item that you'll only get halfway through it, nor did they have to worry about making sure the dungeons increased in complexity in order to support your increasingly bloated inventory, save for the final dungeon. It was easily the most polished dungeon experience I've ever seen in a Zelda game, on top of how the "choose your own path" aspect enhanced the overall adventure experience - I didn't dread the fact that I had to go into another dungeon in order to progress, they were just an extension of that exploration and discovery!

I also liked how in Skyward Sword, the whole lead-up to the dungeon was essentially a dungeon itself. It really helped to blur the lines between where the dungeon starts and stops, making it feel like when I go inside, I'm engaging with a more intense version of what I've already been experiencing, instead of feeling like someone just ripped the game out of my console and replaced it with Puzzle Palace 28: Hookshot Hoedown.

Twilight Princess may have been the best Zelda could offer with the old formula, but honestly, I think that's because the formula itself was long overdue for a change.

What's wrong with Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds?

I really don't understand why they didn't add the hookshot into the game as a late game item.

This article explains it a bit, but doesn't really say why they didn't want it as a late game item either:

My favourite Zelda will (probably) always be OoT. I really hope in BotW2 they will add more unique music and themed dungeons that are approachable from different sides and solvable in different orders. I loved BotW, but adding some more Zelda-esque things to it, while still keeping it open-ended, would be amazing.

Octane

@Dezzy Neither can be played with a proper controller

Revali's Gale + Paraglider = Hookshot.

And I believe this device is called the 2DS "proper controller add-on":

I have that attachment. It at least a similar one.

It's honestly quite nice. You can't switch cartridges with it on, though.

Yeah I don’t know either.

@Dezzy jokes aside tho... ALBW I'll defend to the death and back and call anyone who whines about the controls an Octane (😜) because that game is goddamn near flawless. Skyward Sword, I'll admit, CAN be finicky/frustrating, if your Wii remote is dinged up. Personally, I've not had a single issue with the motion plus not doing what I wanted it to and whenever I messed up it was my fault for being a clumsy dumbass. But I can see how annoying that one could get, if the controls don't do what they're supposed to, no matter what the reason for that would be.
The bigger issue with Skyward Sword is that you literally have to visit every area three times at minimum throughout the story. The regions are great on their own, just not when you go back and forth between them for 30-40 hours.

I wasn't as crazy about ALBW as some people were (mostly because the world of LTTP is boring to me), but I won't deny the quality of the dungeons for a second. Honestly, I might even go so far as to say there isn't a Zelda game with as many great dungeons, and lacks one I didn't like (though the Dark Palace was close at points).

ALBW is way up there as one of the best in the series for me. I thought it had some of the best dungeons they've ever made! It's either third of fourth in my ranking.

1. Ocarina
2. Breath of the Wild
3. ALBW or Windwaker.

I still think double hookshot would've been nice to have.

A link between worlds is my favorite 2d, and ocarina is my favorite 3d. Hard to say which is my favorite of all time. That list changes on me from time to time. But I'd say albw is almost perfect if not, fully perfect. Awesome dungeons and i loved that alttp map was reused. It all felt familiar yet different with the wall moving mechanic. I didn't notice any control issues. But I'm playing thru skyward sword now and I have a 3rd party motion plus adapter that I'm using and it could be that but the controls are a little hard at times. Still fun though. I'm about to head to the 3rd region from skyloft

@kkslider5552000 yah, not too crazy about the overworld tbh (Lorule Field is one of the best themes in the series, in my opinion, tho) but the dungeons and bosses are all great. I also really liked all the main characters which is a first for 2D Zelda, the exception being Ezelo.

Anyway... If we're gonna do this now I'll make people shake their heads by naming my least favorite game in the series: Ocarina of Time just feels bland to me. I've tried to play all of it repeatedly over the course of 15 or so years before I actually managed to sit through it all. I always loved the first third of the game, with you as Young Link, but the second I got to the Temple of Time and went through with the timeskip I lost interest literally because I never liked how Link looks in that half of the game (I beat Majora's Mask at age 6 or 7 so it's not even about the N64 era visuals and controls/gameplay)

Kind of confirmation bias to me that Zelda games got better as they went, and I'd only put Twilight Princess above Skyward outside of the release orders for 3D and 2D games. Only ones I never really got to play were Four Swords cause it's annoying as hell to set up and actually play.

Hope BotW 2 is gonna continue that trend, to get us back on topic, I guess 😂
