I have some questions for anybody who has purchased this on Switch...

We are told that the game supports up to 8 players using computers, mobile devices etc., but does it support eight players using Switch controllers (such as Joy-Con, Pro Controller etc.)? I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. Also, it says that internet is required. Is an internet connection required at all times when using the software? If so, then that is a definite dealbreaker.

I'm hoping that the software supports Switch controllers as well before I take the plunge, but the eShop page specifically states that it only supports one controller and eight players via local wireless.

Feel free to use this thread to discuss the game as well.

Jackbox's nature makes it impossible to play with just Joy-Con. You need a device that has a display for each player.

For an example, there's a game called Fakin' It where one player is chosen to be a faker and they try to survive 3 questions without others discovering them. The other players all get the same question like: "Who lives closest to you?" and then there's a countdown after which all players, including the faker, have to point at the player who lives closest to them. The faker has no idea what the question was though so they have to improvise and try to keep other players from voting for him as all the other players must vote for the same person for them to be caught.

Now that's just one example. All the games utilize hiding your screen from others in some capacity.

EDIT: Forgot about the internet question. The game is using the internet connection to connect all the devices. It also makes it a perfect game for streams as you can join a game by inputting the room code with your device as long as one person has the game. You don't need to download anything since you're playing it through their website. You may want to try out the game by checking out Twitch to see if anyone plays the game and allows random people to join. That way you can sample the game and see for yourself how it works. Of course, the game mode I ended up describing is for local play...

I see.

I'll give this a pass then. Trying to get everyone's device to sync with the app sounds way too cumbersome, and I think it would quickly kill the momentum of the game. Also, it can only be played in an environment where the Switch can be connected to the internet (and not everybody has a mobile data plan).

The game shows a lot of promise, but I just can't see myself getting any mileage from this. It's a shame too as I was quite looking forward to it. Plus, it's far too expensive for what it is, and when the servers are inevitably shut down, the game will be unplayable.

I hope others will enjoy it though.

The syncing isn't a problem since it's literally just "go to jackbox.tv, insert 4 letter room code that's shown in-game, insert a name for yourself and hit play". It's really easy and fast. Other than that, I can see why the game can be a bit bothersome.

It's its, not it's.
