Question for Elder Scrolls veterans: Are the games connected at all? I recently picked up a PS3 and Oblivion but haven't played it much yet. Do I need to try to play and beat Oblivion before this comes out, or are the unconnected and it doesn't matter? (I think the race I chose to be in Oblivion is someone from Skyrim, so I know there is that connection.)
@Xyphon22 The races are the same. Basically, if you go to the north of the map in Oblivion (Cyrodiil) you'll encounter dungeons and story quests more in the vein of Skyrim. There is little direct connection, though. Oblivion just sets up the general world state that is the backdrop to Skyrim's story, but you can gather all of that from talking to NPCs attentively.

Skyrim is set 200 years after the events of Oblivion, so you'll hear a few references about what happened in Oblivion from NPC's, books, loading screens etc, but it really doesn't matter at all. Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls game and I had no issues. The games are pretty much completely unrelated from a story perspective.
Cool, thanks for the answers everybody. While I'm sure I probably will play Oblivion between now and then (doubt I'll beat it in that time though) it's nice to know I don't have to worry about doing it. Not like I'd actually worry about it. It is just a video game, after all.
from the footage we have seen so far this looks more like a port of the remastered edition than a port from the 7th gen version. but it definetly doesn't look as good as the remastered version. there seems to be more grass and overall plants though.
skyrim was my first elder scrolls game, too and i had no issues either. it became one of my favourite games ever very fast.
i don't think we will see elder scrolls 6 anytime soon. bethesda said that they have ideas for it but that's it. also there is elder scrolls online and the game would literally die when TES 6 comes out.
i also doubt that bethesda will release any other game for switch. maybe a port of an older game if skyrim sells okay.

The only other game I could see them releasing on the Switch is Fallout 4. But that would only happen when they inevitably make the complete edition with all dlc included for all the other systems.
I am sad that the Bethesda game on Switch isn't Doom.
Otherwise, I am very interested on how this will do. I could see it selling poorly or selling 1,000,000+ copies. Depends on how many Nintendo gamers missed out on it and/or how crazy Skyrim fans are.
Just a tip guys. Don't look this game up on the internet very much, because there are a lot of hidden things and surprising parts of the game that are best found by yourself. I looked up how to get a few abilities and such, and it spoiled some pretty significant parts of the game.
I'll buy this game the day it launches simply because it's Skyrim on the go, but I do need to know one crucial thing first... Does it have the DLC that the Remastered edition came with? If so then I am so excited for this game.

They have to give the most definitive edition the Switch will allow or it will be on them if it fails. It still may fail either way but they need to give the Switch proper treatment and not second rate. Wii U owners don't like second rate.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
Can I say it still feels odd to be talking skyrim on a nintendo console.... It usually goes into a hypothetical situation followed by pessimism and lamenting how Bethesda doesn't care about nintendo....

@MegaMari0 Well Bethesda the studio seems to care about every console platform insofar as putting Skyrim / Fallout and angling for mods on it. However, those are dead on arrival on a Nintendo system.
My only complaint was in Dawnguard. You were kinda “forced“ into the questline starting at level 10. You didn't HAVE to do it per se, but cities/ villages would occasionally be attacked by vampires at night. This could lead to NPCs dying (annoying if they had roles in quests). Of course, mods can fix that... on other versions, at least. Still, I would've prefered if the normal method for starting it was via “opting in“.
Hearthfire was fun, but you'll send your Skyrim into an iron shortage trying to get enough nails.
Dragonborn was excellent.
I think they get marked as an "essential" character if they have a role in a quest. But yeah, it was still annoying. I'd always roll back a save and go somewhere else for a while if someone died.
Hearthfire was pretty grindy, yeah. Worst part about that DLC IMO. Dragonborn was really cool all around. No complaints on that one, although I found it kind of frustratingly difficult at times, but maybe I'm just a noob lol.
Dawnguard is one of my favorite game stories. It stars an interesting female character who subverts her trope-expected role and is also voiced by Laura Bailey. <3
