@LuckyLand
I've just never encountered anything like this before with my other characters which is what makes it weird. I was wearing Steel Plate Armor upgraded to Superior, my armor rating was about 220, and these guys were still dropping the kind of beefy hits that two-hand weapons normally deliver. And it wasn't only the Bandit Chiefs--every time I got a bounty, I ran into Bounty Collectors who had Elven Daggers too. I was killed by a Bandit Chief who had a Steel Mace with fire damage to start with, but pulled an Elven Dagger part-way through the fight; unfortunately, I've taken to playing perma-death style so that was the end of that character.

I’ve pretty much given up on looting anything that adds weight. The time spent messing around with my inventory isn’t worth it.

Fighting wise I’ve settled into a pattern where (after gaining inspiration from an in game book) I’ve levelled up Illusion and cast calm on everything that moves before bludgeoning them in the back of the head. Then calm again & repeat (if necessary).Works well.

When I get quiet casting I’ll probably switch to casting fury from a distance and let the enemies take care of themselves. Completely unscripted last night I had a frost troll get into a fight with a dragon (thank you mr frost troll).

Fought my first (non story) dragon tonight and what a rush it was. My heart was literally pounding as I fought it I managed to squeak out a victory just barely even used up my healing potions, but I won......

Then a giant got me from behind and killed me, I was very annoyed.

Those dragons sure like to appear at random times.

It's almost like with the guardians in Zelda. "Wait battle music? Where?".

Usually by the time I manage to get a good look at them, random guards already have it half dead.

There was that one time when the dragon never attacked at all, too.

Yeah I don’t know either.

@Meowpheel Yeah I think that's what agroed the giant. I remember going to a quest destination when I saw a giant camp, I snuck by it without alerting the giant. I made it a bit down the road and all of a sudden this epic sounding music started and I was like WTF is going on. Then I heard the dragon a huge shadow came across me and I saw the dragon breathing fire on something so I ran back to the dragon and yeah....

I managed to get a dragon soul from it which I was trying to figure out what it does next thing I know a giant comes up behind me and knocks me up into the air.

Haha I've never seen Giants do that. I kinda want to. Sounds fun.

The dragon souls let you unlock the words of power you find around the world. Like, you find the word, but you can't equip it until you use a dragon soul on it. (In the magic menu).

Yeah I don’t know either.

@Tasuki Yeah, I've been to that spot. Very frustrating. Fighting dragons is bad enough, but I can't even put a scratch on a giant.

After dying a couple of times, I turned around and ran like hell. It's gonna be a while before I go back there.

I remember one of the first things I did when playing the game was find a giant.

I ran around in circles in one of those lookout spots that are usually filled with bandits or guards (I had killed off the bandits already). Looking back and shooting arrows at the giant.

It took several minutes and he tried o run away multiple times.

Yeah I don’t know either.

I have the feeling that giants have been made a lot more quiet than in the original release. I bought the game on PS3 in the day of its launch and at first I had to run away everytime I saw a giant in the distance because they got angry extremely easy and immediately attacked me. Then I played it again some years later and giants were absolutely not that easily triggered.

Talking about giants and dragons it once happened (on PC) that two different dragons appeared a the same time while a giant and his two mammoths were around. The computer struggled A LOT to handle that situation. I don't even remember if I waited until somebody was killed or I just turned it off because of the awful framerate I had to deal with.

Resurrecting an entire dungeon's worth of dragur with the aetherial crown exploit (ritual stone) and leading them against the dragon priest boss like an RTS definitely sent the 360 into conniptions. I should try that again in the remaster and see how well PS4 stacks up.

So how do I get more amor recipes for crafting? Do I have to find them in the world or is it by putting points in my armor skill or something I haven't even thought of?

I believe certain items unlock as you level up your skill.

Upgrade your Smithing skill then pick the perks in the Smithing skill tree when you level up to start crafting that type of armor and weapons.

Ah ok I see. Also does stuff respawn in areas?? Like there's this one cave type area I found where I cleared out the bandits. I was thinking of using it as a place for me of sorts till I can afford a house, thing is I don't want to leave stuff in the caves like ore and such that can be used for crafting if enemies will respawn in there.

@Tasuki

If it had bandits, they'll respawn, and there's a good chance that most/ all of the containers are “unsafe“, which means they'll reset after a while (and anything you put in them is lost). Items left lying on the ground may despawn after a while too (I'm not 100% sure about that though).

There's a cabin not too far from Riverwood with an old woman in it. She can be killed at no penalty (and she's not very nice anyway), and the storage containers in her basement are safe. It's a nice place to store stuff until you get a house.

The haunted house in Markarth is completely safe to use.

@DarthNocturnal Ah ok I was thinking of turning the Steam Camp place north of Whitehall into a makeshift home, that's why I asked. So tired of getting emcumberd. Might check out that house you mentioned though.

@Tasuki it's up north, to the left.

A bit far. But it was actually the second big city I found on my own.

It's a really cool place, I like it
