Lol I think the day one patch did exactly the opposite. It unlocked the frame rate outside of battles. At least... so I hear, anyways.

Yep. This came out in 2008. Troy Baker had done almost no big games at that point. Just a handful of minor parts. His first major role was arguably Snow in FF13, 2010.

I hope you all enjoy this. I've played it in recent memory on 360 so I'm not ready to double dip (even with the extras), but it's a great game.

Not sure if I like this or Abyss better, though.

I started a game of Abyss on 3DS, but I never got far because I didn’t realize it was such a well regarded game at the time. My brother was a JRPG aficionado for many years though and recommended both games to me. Pressed me for so long about playing Vesperia, That I was dang near ready to buy a 360 for it. But Lost Odyssey was added to X1 BC (another game he turned me on to), so I bought it for BC, which never came. Been patiently waiting for years for the opportunity to play this game.

And it doesn’t disappoint. It looks great on Switch, too. And excellent in handheld mode. Actually played for several hours on Saturday in tabletop mode when at work. Got some really good battery life out of the system while playing, too. I do make sure to turn on Airplane mode though (but with Bluetooth still enabled for wireless controller).

So I'm not that far into this game yet. Rita only just joined my party. But I was looking at the synthesis and noticed I am able to craft absolutely crazy OP weapons and armor already. Was that part of the DLC freebies or something? It seems nuts I can craft items so OP only a few hours into the game. I feel like I shouldn't because then any since of challenge will vanish if I one shot everything?

Or am I misunderstanding how this all works? Total "Tales" noob here. Sorry about that.

Does anyone know where I can find a list of the Japanese titles for characters in this game? I don't want to change my system language just to check. But Judith gets "Trophy Wife" which I found insulting and wildly out of place, and I wonder if it is a localization mistake.

Ten hours into it now. Although this isn't my favorite rpg on the Switch, it's like a warm blanket in the winter. Feels good. Yuri has just enough anti-hero in his character that has him coming off as "cool".

Good combat, sublime soundtrack, enjoyable cast. We just don't get rpg games this well made very often these days I feel.

@Quarth Assuming that is the Japanese for the correct title - I have been too lazy to change my console language over and check myself - this is correct. It IS a butchered localization. I have no idea why they went with "Trophy Wife". The meaning of the Japanese is closest to attentive or tactful woman. How the translation team took that and got trophy wife is beyond me. Personally I would have gone with "Observant Woman" or "Wise Woman" given both the Japanese and the context of when you get the title.

The Tales series is pretty low budget as JRPGs go. They probably don't have anyone double-checking the translations.

@Heavyarms55 Yeah, it's a very strange translation and other than being quite sexist, it doesn't fit the character or its actions.

I keep running into rocks or other seemingly breakable barriers but have found no way to break them. I am more than 30 hours into this now. Is this some kind of post game thing?

Just got a late birthday present from my brother, Who has been recommending this game to me for so many years. He said it’s a prequel to the events in the game. So you get to see how Yuri became a knight and all that jazz. Missing the Blu-ray since that’s in my X1X right now about to play the movie 🤗

I just finished watching it and it was surprisingly good. I mean I expected it to be decent just because it has to do with the game and I like the game. But this movie, it could honestly stand on its own merits. Even without the game. I’m kind of shocked how much I enjoyed that. Troy Baker still voices Yuri. The production values and animations are excellent. Characters and other voice actors are fantastic. I’m really really pleased with that movie.

And I tell you what, gives you a new perspective playing the game. I feel like there’s a history there that I know about now that helps give context to Flynn, Repede, Yuri, Rita, etc.
