So I got a switch on launch day like a lot of you guys. Fantastic device for what it is. I think about the switch a lot and the future of the device. Just my thoughts and opinions on some things. Some things stand out as good to me and while neither are “bad” or “ugly “ right now I could see them moving that way.

The Good:Software

So far switch has had a varied and wonderful lineup of games. I don’t think I have ever bought game software at this rate. It seems like every week or so I see a game that I want. It’s insanity or close to it. Good on Nintendo for making sure we never get bored or have periods of games not releasing on the console. They have done an excellent job and should be applauded. Speaking of software....

The Bad: Modern Architecture/Low Power

The switch had been getting games and that is never a bad thing. Obviously Indie games are totally different then AAA games from big publishers. The switch is probably the most modern console Nintendo has ever made when it comes to the architecture that makes up the console. The switch is also the best Nintendo could have done in the switch’s current design. In order to make it more powerful they would have had to change its design altogether. The architecture is a big reason why games like doom, wolfenstein, nba 2k, etc cane to the system. I just think the lack of power could come back to hurt them. Looking at games like WWE 2k18 you can see there are some worrying signs. Yes WWE isn’t a great game on any console but it’s “unplayable” on Switch. So having the architecture to run certain effects is nice but you need the cpu speed, RAM and other components to even things out for good development. I just think in the end we could end up seeing a lot of games missing the switch because they just won’t run well on the console or be could get crappy ports that are unplayable or borderline unplayable. I hope this is not an issue but it could be.

The Ugly: Third party game sales.

The elephant in the room with Nintendo will always be third parties games. In particular western third party games and their sales. I have seen certain publishers say things like “we are happy with the sales of our game on switch.” That to me doesn’t seem like the most confident statement. It is enough to calm any negativity about their game on switch. I just worry if all together these third party games will sell enough to warrant and justify future development. Bethesda has done an amazing job on Switch. I can’t wait for Wolfenstein 2. I just think Switch need a couple of home runs when it comes to third party game sales. Question what do you guys think will be the first third party game to sell a million units on switch that doesn’t include Mario?

These are just some thoughts I have been having guys. I hope that these thoughts and potential concerns are nothing to worry about. They system just past 10 million sold in about 9 months which is outstanding. Let hope for even more sales and switch owners buying every game they can get their hands on. Have a great holidays guys... if you celebrate those things.
