Topic: Switch Pro, Upgraded Dock, or Switch Mini?

Imo the option of a mid gen iteration of the Nintendo Switch is inevitable. The question is when it's happening and what will it be. I heard rumors of a Switch Mini in the works for the consumers/kids who don't care about the docked feature. There is also the huge portable gaming market in Japan that Nintendo can utilize and it'd be a win win for them since they wouldn't have to pay $90 for a dock.
There is also the idea of Nintendo making a more powerful Switch altogether like they did so many times with their handhelds - epsecially the 3ds (3ds xl, New 3ds xl, 2ds, etc.) The Switch Pro or Switch+ would most likely be using the tegra x2 chip for the Switch, it just runs on a modified version of the x1 if I'm not mistaken.
But then we have the idea of a upgraded/4k dock. Instead of the Switch doing all the heavy lifting the dock outputs it's power onto the TV at a glorious resolution. This would make extra use of the dock instead of it just being a glorified and overpriced HDMI cable.
Personally I would prefer the Upgraded dock coming into existence cause it seems more convenient. I don't really care about the resolution on the Switch in handheld mode cause of it's small size, most games look great on it.
Plus there is also the fact that the save files are saved into the Switch's system instead of the cartridge.

Rumours? Switch Mini? Nah, that's not rumours, that's speculation and dumb hopes. I've never seen any rumours for that dumb idea.
I'm expecting a Switch XL within the next 2 years. That black border on the current Switch is annoying, would love a screen upgrade.
Upgraded dock is, in all honesty, very unlikely. It would just be upscaling the games and Nintendo doesn't care about 4K. If they did, they wouldn't do something pathetic like that, they'll do it when they're ready.

A Super Nintendo Switch would be epic, that could happen in the next few years.
If not, then I guess they'll just go forward with Switch 2 with a custom chip based on Tegra X2.

What do you mean by "Super Nintendo Switch"?

Also, it's probably smarter if the Switch 2 moves straight to the Xavier chip, which is a significant improvement.

@Peace-Boy To be honest I'm not entirely sure how the supposed dock would even work. I just heard Digital Foundry mention it in one of their videos, I forgot which one though.
And the dock wouldn't necessarily have to be 4k, just make most 3rd party games at a higher resolution and framerate.
Btw how annoying is the black border on the Switch? You're the first comment I scene to complain about, I never noticed anything like that on the Nintendo Switch.

@Agriculture By Super Nintendo Switch I'm pretty sure he's referring to an upgraded version of the base model like with what Sony did with the ps4 and Microsoft with their xbox.

@Agriculture Super Nintendo Switch = Switch Pro mentioned in the OP.
Xavier? Interesting, don't remember hearing anything about a better chip from Nvidia.

@iLikeUrAttitude I'm not sure if the dock could work like that, but it's a possible idea I guess. I'd prefer the whole Switch to be improved though.
Well, when I'm in the dark, I can't really see anything, but if I'm playing in the light, I'm just like "ugh, this looks hideous. This isn't necessary."
I mean, it's fine, but at the same time, I'd prefer if it wasn't there.
It would also make it even better for tabletop mode.

@Peace-Boy Fair enough. I would probably buy a Switch Pro if there were data transfers and if the game save files were saved into the game, not the system.
Geez I hope it doesn't look that bad when I open mine.

I‘ve already argued against the idea of a dock-less Switch Mini before for the very simple reason that the whole thing with Switch is that it‘s a hybrid, it‘s neither one or the other. And making a Switch Mini would probably involve shrinking the entire thing down so detachable Joy-Con, which are already often discussed as being too small to comfortably hold for long, are thrown into question as well. So you might also throw out out of the box mobile multiplayer, another key aspect of Switch. And once you‘ve done all that, you have a Switch that may or may not be a Switch anymore. But that‘s just my silly opinion. If I was to choose, I‘d maybe go for a bigger screen with larger battery, larger Joy-Con and so on. But we‘re talking 2020, 2019 at the earliest here, so I‘d rather think about what Switch will hold for us in the new year.

@GoldenGamer88 I would suspect the target demographic being young children. Maybe they could solve the portability issue by giving it a clam-shell design?
But I respect your opinion, this isn't a youtube comment section.
Either a upgraded dock or an upgraded Switch altogether.

I'd buy a switch mini.

Removing the dock doesn't mean it needs to stay portable.

You'd just need to invest on an external controller. Or maybe if we go with a clamshell design, make the lower controller half detachable. But buying an extra controller seems like the better option.

I think we'll see a New Switch (yes I do think Nintendo will use "New" like they did with 3DS) which improves handheld mode but changes nothing for docked mode. So stuff like games being able to run at 720p/60fps in handheld mode, improved battery life, right Joy-con having the control stick above the ABXY buttons. etc.

@iLikeUrAttitude Yeah, I think out of all possible options, an updated Switch would be my prefered choice. No need to mess around with size that much, just make the battery last longer and help the framerate/resolution stay stable or aim even higher.

@GoldenGamer88 I wouldn't mind if the resolution staying the same for better framerate for every game.

I'm not too sure if we'll see a new Switch, handhelds always receive upgrades but Nintendo's home consoles don't usually get major revisions. And no I don't see a portable only Switch, because that takes away it's biggest feature and selling point...

A Switch Pro or improved dock could push higher resolutions but it would require more effort from the developers, and all of the previously released games would need an update to take advantage of it. As some developers are already struggling with the transition from docked to undocked I could only see this causing more problems.
Maybe they could upgrade the nvidia chip when their prices go down? Maybe not the new Xavier one as that would be more suited to a successor but maybe an older one like the X2? That could let them have more efficient energy consumption and the extra power could be used to prevent frame drops for games that are struggling to run well, similar to boost mode on PS4 Pro.
Combined with a larger screen, smaller bezels and a larger battery we could have an improved Switch.

...I don't really know much about computer hardware or how it works but they are just some possibly realistic ideas
