My version of a dream RPG machine will not be realized until I see some SEGA CD Lunar games.

I can look at NL and see the likes of Persona, Kingdom Hearts, Witcher, Code Vein ect aren't coming, me saying the PS4 is better for RPGs isn't not the same as me saying the Switch is rubbish for RPGs. Also as much as you would like to believe I'm some sort of Sony fanboy trolling you I don't own actually a PS4.

Among those Persona 5 is quite likely right now. Kingdom Hearts will also eventually end up on the system in one way or another. Not sure about the others (I halfway agree with you, as stated earlier).

It was always a given that Switch, like most Nintendo handhelds was going to become an RPG dream machine, and that was cemented when Vita went down and Sony pulled out of the handheld space. PS4 gets some high profile JRPGs, and it has more of the more obscure ones, sure, but that's because it's been around a lot longer. At this point, any JRPG maker would be nuts not to go Switch first. Switch has a future for their games, while PS4 is on its way out and PS5 will be more western than ever. No question Switch carries the 3DS torch as the JRPG destination.

@jump Kingdom Hearts is only a matter of time. S-E isn't ruling out KH3 and already confirmed that. Story So Far...no idea what's up with that and why it's not on XBox either....like FF, it inevitably will be on both machines, just no idea when and if there's exclusivity to work out. DQXI's definitive is, for now, exclusive to Switch (PS4 version is pretty but.....dat music....)

Persona 5....Joker in Smash is still intriguing. It could be Persona Q2 related....but....

That's all well and good but it's very odd that people are getting ahead of themselves by confirming that Persona, Kingdom Hearts, a mass of JRPGs since the PS4 is dying etc are coming out without it actually being confirmed.

I know that the PS4 has more games, but my definition of the best RPG machine is the one I can actually play RPGs on, so the Switch's portability definitely makes it a strong candidate. 3DS filled this role for me before, but the fact that the Switch can actually handle more modern games with more features and better graphics makes it that much better. I'm ecstatic about the FF games coming out, DQ XI is a day one purchase, and I still really want to play Valkyria Chronicles 4.

Once Atlus starts doing Switch instead of 3DS, I'll have pretty much everything I need on one device.

Obligatory "Monster Hunter is not an RPG"

'Tis true, it's a rhythm game.

Skyrim

Considering the "streamlining" of skills and attributes with each game Bethesda make, I'd put Skyrim in the action/adventure category.

OT: Switch has a long way to go to beat the 3DS as an RPG machine.

Tbh the PS4 has the Switch beat by a mile for RPGs.

This coming from CENSORSHIP and blocking CrossPlay and wondering why Developers are leaving and Going to Switch. Yeah that's real smart thinking business sense. Might want to see whom is getting more JRPG/RPG now be released. Don't have to look far do you. Go Troll on sony site they love you as long as you give them free $$$.

Have either of these things affected RPG's, though?

Censorship - As far as I know it's so far limited to DOA Extreme 3 (a volleyball/mini game collection title), some Visual Novels, and Senran Kagura (usually hack n' slash). They seem to be focusing on items/modes that let you directly manipulate the female characters' bodies, not sexy representations in general (not sure what's up with the VN's, though).

Cross Play - Again, seems to be mostly affecting big multiplayer games, which most RPGs aren't (I know there may be a few, but Wargroove is the only one I can think of off the top of my head). While they are dragging their feet on this, they seem to be begrudgingly making steps in the right direction though.

Note: I certainly don't agree with Sony's stance on these issues, but at this point I think it's at the "wait & see" phase rather than the "let's panic & boycott" phase.
