Incredible line-up of rpgs going to be on the console by the end of this year.
Off the top of my head: Baldurs gate 1-3, Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, planescape torment, Xenoblade 2, Torna golden country, Okinawa (sp?), Skyrim, ys viii, pillars of eternity 2, Pokemon gen 8, ff vii, ff ix, ff x, ff xii, monster hunter, octopath traveller, tales of Vesperia, Diablo 3, labyrinth of refrain, the lost child
No doubt many others but the above is seriously impressive - to be able to play that range of rpgs on a handheld is staggering.
Could do with a couple more western rpgs - fallout etc but not going to complain.
Tbh the PS4 has the Switch beat by a mile for RPGs.
This coming from CENSORSHIP and blocking CrossPlay and wondering why Developers are leaving and Going to Switch. Yeah that's real smart thinking business sense. Might want to see whom is getting more JRPG/RPG now be released. Don't have to look far do you. Go Troll on sony site they love you as long as you give them free $$$.
I believe Switch will be JRPG Heaven for Japanese developers.
Wait 1 year later for FF XIII 10th Anniversary, probably an HD remastered for PS4, Switch & Xbox One.

Are developers actually leaving development of PS titles tho?
It's still PS4. Most of the high profile & critically acclaimed RPGs of the last few years have been on that system as well as the ones coming out soon. There's a lot of titles and franchises missing for me to consider the Switch a Dream RPG machine, you only have to look at how ports of decades old Final Fantasy games are being championed on the Switch as opposed actually getting the new entries and remakes.

Don't forget various tactical RPGs like Fire Emblem, Valkyria Chronicles and indies like Wargroove and Banner Saga. It is indeed already pretty good for RPG fans; not too surprising with Nintendo after the 3DS was too (Bravely, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade). People who missed the FFs or Bioware games or didn't want to bother playing 80h+ grinding games on less flexible systems probably don't know what they should play first right now (e.g. I missed FF X because I didn't like PS2 disc loading times, very happy about all these ports that I can take on the train).
For many RPG fans, being able to play such deep games both on a big screen and on the go already makes it an RPG dream machine.
But to be the real dream machine someone has to succeed in porting the most critically acclaimed RPGs of the current or last gen; Persona 5, Witcher 3, the Mass Effect trilogy, Fallout 3. I wish we would see that coming..
As the PS4 is phased out to make way for the PS5 in 2020 and the Switch becomes the market leader in Japan from 2019 through 2021, we're going to see several Japanese developers focus on the Switch as their primary platform.
The Switch is going to get an influx of rpg games over the next few years. The question is are there enough publishers with solid translation staffing to handle it all?
Switch Physical Collection - 1,247 games (as of April 15th, 2024)

If there ain't no endless number tables it ain't no RPG And you need to reduce the scope of the definition somewhere, right? Even if Nintendo itself thinks otherwise about their games..
Having so many older RPGs available on the Switch is excellent. Not to mention the more modern releases. Reminds me of the Vita when that was still kind of barely a thing. That machine was great for older RPG ports. Is the Switch the dream machine for RPGs currently - I wouldn't go that far. In the future, I don't see why not!
Dark Souls; Shining Force 1 and 2; Phantasy Star 1-4; Shining Resonance Refrain; YIIK; Child of Light; Cosmic Star Heroine; incoming Langrisser 1+2; incoming Marvel Ultimate 3; Disgaea 1 and 5; Darkest Dungeon; Hyper Light Drifter; Undertale; Wasteland 2; Bastion; Transistor; FFXV:PE; Fairy Fencer F; Romancing SaGa 2...
Just filling in some of the gaps from this page. Yep, the Switch is pretty well set for RPGs. Not saying the PS4 doesn't have an edge with Persona 5, Witcher 3, Horizon: Zero Dawn and all the other From Software games, but the Switch is already pretty much an RPG dream machine, and it's only going to get better. We're bound to start picking up some of those Japanese developers, in particular, who are leaving the Vita and 3DS behind.

Take a look at the NL site of what is upcoming and ask yourself rather then Troll sony line.

I can look at NL and see the likes of Persona, Kingdom Hearts, Witcher, Code Vein ect aren't coming, me saying the PS4 is better for RPGs isn't not the same as me saying the Switch is rubbish for RPGs. Also as much as you would like to believe I'm some sort of Sony fanboy trolling you I don't own actually a PS4.
