@Octane See the above link that is Hideki Kamiya explaining that Nintendo and SEGA are joint rights owners.

In the instance of Bayonetta 2 for an example, its stated they own some of the characters. Characters that are part of the Bayonetta license, therefore they own part of Bayonetta as an IP. Now the IP may or may not be free for SEGA to do whatever with, but the parts of the property owned by Nintendo are not for them to use.

@YummyHappyPills Yeah, the own the rights of the second and the third game, not the IP however. SEGA can't release Bayonetta 2 and 3 on PC without Nintendo's consent, and Nintendo can't make a Bayonetta game without SEGA's consent.

Small note: Sakurai has confirmed over Twitter that he's been working on the game in secret... every day after he took his few month long break from Sm4sh DLC.

So 2.5ish years for this game.

@Octane Except... That contradicts what Kamiya said last month, that Nintendo owns part of Bayonetta. I wouldn't be surprised if Sega can't use any of the characters or locations introduced in 2 or 3 without Nintendo's permission, which would make them partial owners of the IP based on what he said.

link3710

Octane

@link3710 It doesn't contradict what Kamiya said. He never said Nintendo owns part of the IP. He only said they own part of Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3.

''As such, the rights [of Bayonetta 2] belong to Sega and Nintendo.'' and ''All of the rights [of Bayonetta 3] still belong to Sega and Nintendo.''

He even confirmed that SEGA is the IP holder: ''I am extremely thankful [...] to Sega for allowing [Nintendo] to use the Bayonetta IP.''

Does that make Bayonetta a Nintendo IP? No. Does that make Bayonetta (as she is seen in 2) a Nintendo character? Partly.

Yeah, SEGA owns the Bayonetta franchise. Nintendo only, partly, own the second and third game.

Technically, Bayonetta 4 (or a spin-off game) can be funded by SEGA and be released on Playstation, Xbox and PC. Although, that's very unlikely.

I don't think the Smash tease in Bayonetta 2 Switch would've happened if Rodin wasn't going to be in Smash Switch in some form. Could be a stage where he's a hazard (e.g. Yellow Devil, Ridley, Metal Face), could be an assist trophy or could be a playable character.

That was never a reference to Smash Bros. I don't understand why people think it is. Little do people know that it is a reference to another game she was a downloadable character in called Anarchy Reigns.

@backup368 Which is why it is brought up SPECIFICALLY when you scan a Super Smash Bros. Series amiibo?

@YummyHappyPills Because it might just be a fun little shout-out to the franchise that has no purpose other then to be an easter egg?

Edit: I meant a shout-out to the Smash franchise, not Anarchy Reigns.

@Snaplocket So you propose there is a reference to Anarchy Reigns in the Switch port of Bayonetta 2 released specifically after her inclusion in Smash, that is unlocked by scanning a Smash series amiibo that references a fight club full of all stars?

And you think that ISNT at least in part referencing Smash?

It jusr dawned on me how close to Aurora Borealis in the Kitchen that played out.

@YummyHappyPills I mean, yeah it's probably a reference to Smash Bros. But there's no way to know that would somehow translate to "RODIN'S GONNA BE IN SMASH!" Like so many people are saying. I was one of those guys who tried to be all in-depth on who's gonna be in Smash 4 and it backfired horribly.

So I replayed Melee recently to help satiate my hype and I gotta ask, does ANYBODY miss the scoring system from Melee?

At the end of every battle, you're given a score based upon the things you do in battle. Win the fight in 30 seconds or less? "Half Minute Man". Barely move from your spot? "Cement Shoes". Throw your opponent in every direction? "Compass Tosser". And just a bunch more. There's even a screen that details every explanation for these scores. It's totally pointless but I don't know, it just adds so much for me. I'm the weirdo that actually likes to look at the list and see what I accomplished. It's strangely addicting. I hope they bring this system back for Smash 5. I miss it dearly.

@AlternateButtons I would absolutely love them to bring the scoring system back. It was always fun to scan through after each match.

If there's something I wish they would bring back, it's target smash and board the platforms. But I guess having a unique level for each character is just too much work for a relatively minor part of the game these days, with its giant roster

@link3710 So it's not just me! Man I was so sad when it was taken out from Brawl and never came back. It added so much personality to the game.

@MisterPi Yeah with a roster of 50+ characters, I don't think that'll ever happen again. Maybe as a free DLC update? Who knows. I hope they can bring it back too.

@MisterPi Yeah, I hope that they bring them back too - those modes were a lot of fun to play, which surely has to count for something? ..here's hoping!

I also hope that the Home Run Contest will feature in Smash Switch - it usually (always?) does, so the chances seem pretty good...it's just something that I find strangely addictive and satisfying - hope I get to ping a few sandbags around when the new game drops!
