It'll probably be revealed and released in the same year (2016). The 3DS would have had a good 5 1/2 year run by next holiday and I doubt that they plan to drag it out much longer than that.
If NX is some sort of software/program/OS, it'll probably be released even sooner.

...Did Nintendo actually say if this was a new system? I'm kinda expecting them to announce it and it ends up being something else. xD
They announced that it was new hardware platform and that was it. Which could mean that it's a home console, portable or something else entirely. But it's definitely hardware built with the intention of running games on. That said the most logical outcome is that it's either a portable console or a home console. And the age of their two current platforms as well as the current rate of software suggest that it's more likely to be a portable. But this is speculation. This is the one big piece of information we have which really doesn't hint to anything other than that it is hardware:
As for dates.... they've said they'll have more to talk about next year so I think we can assume there's an announcement sometime next year. And given the way products are developed such an announcement is more likely to be pushed back than brought forward. Which would suggest a launch window between the second half of 2016 and sometime in 2017. In either case precedent would suggest a November launch.
