I would say that not buying any DLC ever is a little extreme!
Not all DLC is as good as others, so just assess what is included, what price it is, and if it hasn't been released - will you still be playing the game by then?
If it's just a skin for a character or something that is already obtainable in the game but you can buy it to save time then it probably isn't worth it. The Smash Bros DLC was slightly extreme but most of it was either fan requested characters or popular characters and stages from previous games. I'd say that nobody really needed the the Mii costumes but the rest were good additions. Yes they did cost a lot of money but they wouldn't have been cheap to develop, so the price is reasonably accurate but slightly increased for profit, because you know...business.

As for BOTW, they spent years making an amazing, big world that is full of things to do and it would be a waste to just leave it as it is. The game was delayed so that it could be ported to the switch so some of the team would have had time to brainstorm additional content for later down the line anyway.

I wouldn't say that Nintendo is THAT corrupt compared to other platforms. Every company has their own ways of making money -
-Steam has sales that makes people buy tons of games that they will never play, but Valve gets a percentage of the money from.
-Microsoft has at some point made rules about multiplatform releases so that they don't lose money to competitors (Not sure if they still have this one).
-Sony makes exclusivity deals with developers so that other platforms have less content for the same game or have to wait longer than those with a PS4.
-Nintendo's problem is the high price of first party games that they very occasionally have on sale, but this makes sense as their first party titles are one of the reasons that they are still around as a business, they would be gone without them by now.

Overall DLC can be used to make customers pay more money for content that they should already have, but sometimes the developers just want to add something extra to a game that they have spent years working on and in that case, I don't see a huge problem.
Besides - it's optional!

Super late reply!

@Kimyonaakuma
Had to look it up myself

@Stereoman
That definitely plays a part.
I'm pretty much in the same boat there, I either wait for a "GOTY" edition or a bundle that has all the DLC if I bought the game prior.
Same, unless the 2nd DLC pack has something amazing to offer, cause the first one gave virtually nothing.
You might be waiting a while, since BoTW has mad high ratings and is a contender for GOTY as well as just being a Nintendo game, the chances of BoTW hitting the bargain bin are practically non-existent.
I can't really deny that, since the DLC, if bought separately, costs more than the game itself.

Thanks~

Ehhh, DLC as of late have pretty bad lately, the only DLC I can think of being worth it would be for the Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption, with Smash Bros. IF you bought the bundle containing everything.

I'm in the minority when it comes to BoTW, but the content in the game is fairly lack-luster. Sure it's huge and everything's connected with no loading screens, but there's only a handful of monsters to battle (not counting variations because they are the same), only 4 dungeons, handful of "populated" towns, practically no story, not enough side-quests etc...outside of the amount of content, I was not keen about weapons breaking as fast as they did or the fact the Champions weapons broke, or more importantly, the Master Sword and Hylian Shield breaking...and the fact they made the Master Sword unbreakable via DLC feels like a slap in the face. BAH HUMBUG, now I'm getting upset over a different game D:<

MAYBE not with DLC, but in terms of copyright striking people on YouTube, they are the worst.
-Steam is a money making monster because of where it is and what it does, nothing holds a candle to it. (Except for maybe GoG and Humble Bundle)
-You mean buying a game on Xbox and being able to play it on PC? That is pretty neat, but I believe I'm in the minority who thinks that, because why bother having an X-box if you can play Xbox games on a PC?
-Pretty good strategy.
I would not call that a problem for Nintendo, a few problems for Nintendo is the fact they still haven't implemented a normal in-game voice-chat for their games, until recently they had no 3rd party support, their hardware is weak compared to the rest, and their online isn't the greatest. I persoanlly have no issue with the price of the 1st party games since they are the same price as other Triple A games but are much more refined with little to no bugs, need no day 1 patch, are full games needing no DLC, and are fairly enjoyable.

DLC should only be used to add to a game and not be part of the game that has been cut out and be re-sold to us, which a lot of Devs are doing.
That varies, if you don't have the newest "expansion" for Destiny, you are unable to play a fairly large portion of the game.
