ah! Awesome. You answered my question from earlier today, on the previous page. I wanted to know if the cart came with at least one full game. Now we know. Thanks!

I bought physical, too. On a positive note, the cartridge does help save sd card space since you only download half full game file, rather than the full 15GB. Not exciting, but its something I realized after buying the game.

I've never played Spyro before and thought the game looked a bit simplistic, but I'm glad i gave it a shot. So far, i really like the first game.

Noticed something on the videos of other platforms and playing my version on the switch, the switch doesn't have a map.

Also the physical comes with the first world of the first game, but when you try and use the balloon to get to the next world, you need to download the rest, so what I did was set it to downloading and by the time I had finished the first world it had downloaded the rest, so no biggie but still a cop out by Activision.

But still enjoying it so far as never got round to playing the original all the way through back in my Playstation years (especially as the loading times remind me of the PSone - They are pretty slow)

@Woomy_NNYes Glad to help. It's why I came to the forum. I assumed, like so many others, that the first game was on the cart. I'm not one of the people who feels super insulted by a required download. I'm just grateful we got the game. My problem is how little of the first of three games is actually on the cart. At that point, Activision would have been wise to just release a digital version. I can respect that we're not going to get a cartridge for everything. I have about 50 retail games, physical. I have only a 200 GB micro SD card that's not even half full. Whatever to the argument it's not going to last for years because of the required download. That's everything thanks to patches that even happen with 1st party games. I'm a retro gamer and I know full and well that the days of getting full physical games that last "forever" is a thing of the past. It's dishonest to release so little of the game on the cartridge. I'm not too flustered, but other people might want to know.

Triple dipped on this after buying twice in PS4 (my sister inhereted my initial copy!) - quadruple dipped if you consider my purchasing of the Ps1 games.

I jumped straight into Spyro 3 and I'm loving it as much as ever. Performance differences are noticeable after playing on PS4 Pro - particularly frame rate and the aforementioned dithering in handheld mode - but it's more than serviceable and it's Spyro on the go so no major complaints from me.

@HexagonSun
Yeah, Activision choosing to put so little of one game on a cartridge sold as three games, is blatant anti-consumer. I'm glad I knew roughly what I was buying.

If the game case of a trilogy said "cartridge alone only has the first world of one game playable", I think the carts would be a failure. I agree, the case is misleading, and i think a legal argument could be made that it's fraud. I'm actually really surprised Nintendo allowed it.

Actually the PS4 did the exact same thing. I remember that now. I had to wait for it to download before it let me into the second world.

I bet there's a lot more than that on the disk. I think they just did a lot of polishing that was added in the update, so that's why they gated so much off.

Is it me or did Spyro get significantly less attention and positive reception than Crash did?

I don't understand that at all. I find it to be superior in every way. And I like Crash a lot. But Spyro's so much better.

@Dezzy I love it as I only played a demo of the original when it first came out on PSone.
I have almost completed the first game (hate the flying levels with a passion), but definately going to play through all of them as they are great games

Also got Crash, but only liked the first game (because of nostalgia), the second got a bit too repetitive for me, and never even bothered with number 3, will get back to it at some point

@Dezzy I guess having these platformers on the Switch is old news by now...

But I don't understand the relative hype around Crash myself. IMO Spyro is absolutely one of the best 3D platformers of all time - better than Banjo Kazooie imo. On the other hand I find Crash to be so-so...never really something worth muttering in the same sentence as Mario, for example.

Perhaps it's just me, but does anyone has trouble reaching the farther areas of the level Tree Tops (in the fourth world)? Any tips would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I managed to get to the red thief and get the gems of that spot. As for the spot where the last dragon of Tree Tops is, I had to check in internet because it seemed futile to continue losing lives (-10).

@Dezzy
Getting the Crash Trilogy is what convinced me to try Spyro. I really like Spyro and am surprised it hasn't been more hyped. I will say I'm a bit disappointed in Spyro when I tried it on a 65inch 4k tv... The juddering is pronounce there when the world pans when fast, which is frequent. Messing around with game and tv settings didn't help much. So I went back to a less giant tv I usually game on.

I'm super hyped about Spyro (my copy just arrived) but unlike Crash (which only really had what, Octopath Traveler, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, and Mario Tennis Aces come out within a few months of it?), it's coming out with some super stiff competition. When you're competing against Astral Chain, Daemon Ex Machina, Legend of Zelda, Celeste DLC, Luigi's Mansion 3, Witcher 3, Daemon Ex Machina, Ni No Kuni, FFVIII, Dragon Quest XI, Kirby, Blasphemous, Gunvolt, Ori, all the D&D games and a whole bunch more, it's hard to get your share of the internet's attention.

So while I'm not surprised at all it's not getting much attention on forums, I hope it still sells well. Spyro's original trilogy is one of the finest 3D platformers you can get.

That area is infamous. Almost no-one figures that out without reading a guide.

@Dezzy
I fully agree. I'd take Spyro over Crash any day.

@Dezzy Glad to know that I aren't in the minority that didn't figure it out. Love the game and the humor/personality of the rescued dragons.

I've 100%'d Spyro 1 before several times and it still took me about an hour to remember how to get that last dragon. That level is pure evil.

@Bolt_Strike Absolutely horrific level. The way you have to dive around the speed ramps is unreal. I lost around 15 lives trying to get both sections done :S
