Funny. I feel as though I've had better luck using the Sting Ray than you guys. There's this skill called Special Weapon Up if you think it's too weak. And it can still be used to ID opponents with it's X-ray vision when not firing.

Really, most if not all the specials are easily dodged if you just chuck them randomly at opponents not otherwise preoccupied. You have to really catch them off guard, or use them in concert with your teammates to get the best results, and Sting Ray is no different. It can contest objectives like Rainmaker shields or towers that otherwise act as cover for the other team, counter-snipe with it's unparalleled range, or just help a teammate win a fight from basically anywhere, faster than a Tenta-missile strike would. Just ask the Stingers and their Chum buddies, hm?

Basically, use it like a Killer Wail, that can readjust.

@meleebrawler It may have merit in Ranked, I guess (I'm not quite level 10 yet). But it sure seems rubbish in Turf War where the opponents don't need to be anywhere in particular. And I'd much rather the Splat Charger came with something usable at close range. Bundling it with the Stingray makes for a harsh introduction to the weapon type.

I also would rather just have the Killer Wail back. Always thought it was one of the best designed specials in the original.

@Blue_Blur Ah you see, within my team Im known as the Rainmaker Savage. I go HAM with strats for each stage, and with the Dualies I typically just kill anyone if nexessary, or take the Rainmaker and go for advancing headshots.

oh my goodness I've yet to play this game because of fun busy stuff, now I'm going to get toasted by everyone who already played a gazillion hours it seems

Which of those specials is going to be my new megaphone laser...?

@erv Not the Stingray unless you really stick with it. Its too narrow and slow to move to be used unless people convene around a point

In Rainmaker. It was nearly at our base. One teammate used Stingray and aimed it right on the Rainmaker. One of the opponents grabbed it, took a little damage and had won before he could begin turning.

Stingray. Sucks.

Ugh, having some real troubles with aiming when using handheld mode, which is the only available method for play for me at the moment. Not getting many matches in the evenings here in EU... Have been enjoying the game though

@Zyrac The Killer Wail in the original wasn't exactly great for close-range defense either. Bombs are more than adequate to make space if you throw them at your feet.

@BLP_Software I can't think of any special in this game that would have saved you in that situation. Where was this Sting Ray user when he fired? Was he close? Alone? The further away you use it from, the easier it is to aim without having to stop firing.

We have to get used to the fact we can't single-handedly turn the tide of battle with specials in this game anymore.

Alone, a force. Together, a force of nature.

Stingray. Sucks.

Stringray is garbage. They REALLY need to buff it. It covers barely anything. It's nearly impossible to kill with unless someone is already gravely damaged, and you're super vunerable while using it. Most specials have ONE weakness, not friggin' three.

Plus aerospray/light gun STILL needs to be nerfed from the first game. Amazing kill potential up to mid range, easily the best at covering ground, 100% most universal weapon with no level it's particularly weak on, ALWAYS seems to come with a decent secondary, and GREAT special. Just play any online match and at least 25% of people will be using it--Should be a big red flag something needs to be balanced. People don't mass choose a character or weapon in multiplayer games because it's balanced. Either reduce damage or give it crappier specials/secondaries. It's really the only weapon/s I feel is OP. The rest can be countered or are garbage on certain levels (which is how it should be).

+it's by far the easiest and most effective weapon to camp with.

@BLP_Software I've been finding quick matches all day, maybe how far your matchmaking goes depends on the NAT in connection settings?

@TheLZdragon Have you been matched with many Japanese players in Salmon Run? How does it compare the number you've been matched with in Ranked and Turf?

Actually I haven't really played with Japanese all that often unless they are using English names.

On the flip side, I noticed very little to no lag as a result.

@R_Champ I use it in TW and yes it covers really fast as I'm almost always top on my team. Both sub and specials are good as well but the fire distance sucks and I need to hit someone like 5 times to kill them up close. Plus as much as I've played I haven't really seen that many using it in TW.

I wouldn't use it in ranked as I believe it has too many flaws. Even in splat zones its short range really doesn't help.

Plus I like to win and the areospray helps me when I'm matched with bad teammates. It's also the worst weapon to have when pinned down. Very hard to get out with.

@meleebrawler That's not the point. It was a separate sentiment from saying the charger should have a close-range special. I just think the Killer Wail was a better weapon, without being infuriating like the Kraken or Inkzooka. (Splat Charger came with Bomb Rush in the first game.)

@R_Champ Bad Smash players love to pick Little Mac on For Glory. That doesn't mean he's overpowered, it just means they win against other bad players with him. The Aerospray has scary turf coverage, which is an easy way for anyone to contribute to a Turf War, but it's pretty easily beaten by anything with better range. And in ranked battles, coverage is not so important. Really not finding it a problem so far.
