I play too DS games with 3DS, cause why not? Big part that i play even still so much 3DS cause have so many games digitally and digitally because i just noticed my shelfs have even GB cases on them so i simply not have enough space for all games to be physical. I play also Switch of course. Why to even care others comments if them do harm to what you are doing, years for now biggest part to me playing games been having fun.

It all started from Game&Watch.

Maybe that's why the 3DS had it's best numbers in years "According to Nintendo, citing NPD Group sales estimates, the company sold more than 750,000 2DS and 3DS systems in the United States during the month of December. That’s a 27 percent increase over the same period in 2016, pushing 3DS hardware sales past 21 million in the U.S., Nintendo said."

That's only hardware sales and only in the US, by every other measure the 3DS has gone backwards. According to Nintendo's most recent financial report this is what happened to 3DS sales between 2016 and 2017:

Hardware:
NA: +16%
Japan: -27%
Other: -18%
Total: -9%

Software: <- this matters far more
NA: -38%
Japan: -30%
Other: -31%
Total: -33%

Nintendo is cherry picking one stat here, don't buy into it. The 3DS is in decline and has been for quite a few years. The only exception is the bump they got from Pokemon Go which put 2016 software sales a bit above 2015. In 2017 we can clearly see the 3DS back on the same path they were pre-Pokemon Go.

Additionally, in 2017 Switch sold 206% more hardware than 3DS and 150% more software. Switch also sold more hardware and software than the 3DS did in 2016. My best guesstimate would be that software sales for 3DS haven't been as high as Switch since ~2014 and hardware sales since ~2013. Like it or not this is a very clear generational transition, the Switch is successor to both Wii U and 3DS.

On the topic of the thread in general? I think you're taking this a little too personally. I don't know about others but I'm not really disappointed that the 3DS is still getting games at all. The more platforms games are on the better even if they're on platforms I'm not interested in. What annoys me is when the Switch is left out. Luigi's Mansion being 3DS exclusive is like an album being released exclusively on cassette. I have the hardware so I could play it if I really wanted to but if it's exclusive to that hardware I'm just going to skip it.

3DS is on its way out, don't worry.

I really hope they just do a revival of the GameBoy line next. Keep the handheld stuff super streamlined and simple (though with today's tech., "simple" can do a heck of a lot) and on the cheaper end. Anything to keep me from having to use my smartphone for extended mobile gaming.

But I honestly do think we're in this weird bunch of years where people are REALLY nostalgic, and a new GameBoy could sell well. Strip away the 3D and the dual-screen and just get back to basics. Make it backwards compatible with original GameBoy carts and start with some fresh games.

I'd buy the hell out of a Gameboy Classic with a bunch of GB/GBC ROMs on it. Especially if it was done without obsessing too much over the specifics of the Gameboy's limitations with the screen.

Why the heck you want to display the 240p of 3DS games on big TV ?? It just makes them so Blurry.
Can't buy just because NOT 1080p ?
Seriously ??

What I would want is for them to make the games for Switch and in a higher resolution.

@Agriculture the problem is, even if you find that the 3DS isn't for you, you won't just go ahead and start complaining about it getting new games, might as well just play with your Switch and enjoy yourself.

The games are for me, but not the hardware.

The 3DS is an example of what Nintendo do best. Fun. If my 3DS broke tomorrow, I'd buy another one straight away - there's so many good games for it! I can slip my 3DS in a pocket and if I don't use it, it's no problem. Switch is too big for that. I'm not knocking the Switch, but it's too big to casually slip in a pocket.

The Switch has too few games though. If they had made the new 3DS Metroid for Switch, among other titles, the Switch would have had a more respectable line up.

@Agriculture do you even have eyes? There are over 400 games available on switch! Where have you been?

I'd rather not put my stuff in pockets anymore. I'd rather get a shoulder bag for everything

My Majora's Mask 3DS got broken due to pockets.

If i want to bring my Switch on the go, i Will NOT put it inside my pocket. I Will put it inside my small shoulder bag. Problem fixed.

There's not that many good games. If the Switch got all the 3DS games too, then it would be more good games on the Switch. I do get that Nintendo can't just stop supporting a handheld with over 70 million users, but I am just explaining my reasoning as a Switch owner for wanting the 3DS to stop being supported.

Speaking for myself when I think of "3DS games that should've been on Switch" there aren't that many. And none of them are exactly major releases. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a bit weird that these games are 3DS only with the Switch out. At the same time we're talking about less than a handful of releases all of which are ports, remasters, compilations or easy sequels.

Now if the 3DS was getting something entirely new whether it's a new IP or something and the Switch was missing out? Then sure. That'd be the 3DS getting a bunch of games and the Switch missing out. As it is it's a few random releases where it seems odd that they're not also on Switch. And if they were on Switch we'd probably lose them between games like Splatoon 2, Smash Bros, BotW and Odyssey.

@bluemage1989 Trust me, it's not holding no potential games. Nintendo other plans for the Switch, and they're planning a lot of things, they just don't wanna give it this years and then have an empty 2019.

For me, I have a big WiiU backlog and an even greater 3DS backlog. I am happy with both consoles at the moment, and even happier that Nintendo did not forget to make games for their fans, for the players that bought there consoles..

(I am still angry that I can use Miiverse no longer...)

Eventually it comes to the point where you can't keep sustaining old hardware and start going all in with new hardware. I love my 3DS (and my Wii U and Switch), but its days are numbered. If 2018 isn't the last year, 2019 likely will with a possible Switch Mini replacing the 3DS.
