Topic: Slow down gameplay for old man!

I bought a switch along with Mariokart Deluxe 8 game. At 80 years old, it’s a trick to play ! The turns are too fast and I’m off the track. I’ll keep trying, I think it will be fun. Any ideas ? Slow down the CPU, would work, if possible. Thanks for your reply. Dan

Are you playing on 50cc? That's the slowest speed setting. Also, while you're choosing your kart, you can press the L button (I think) to turn on smart steering, which automatically adjusts your steering to help you stay on track.
Another tip: hold the R or ZR button while turning to make your kart drift. This makes it somewhat easier to go round corners and gives you a speed boost when you let go of the button, but it takes a bit of getting used to. Hope this helps!

@Danb don't have any advice off of the top of my head but i hope you enjoy your new games. There are also many slower paced games available if you have any specific tastes wed all be happy to help you find something. It can nr quite overwhelming at first

Assuming this post isn't a joke, practice makes perfect, at 8 years old or 80. Play on 50cc, and practice drifting to handle turns better. You will get the hang of it with practice.

Thanks for your replies. I’ll incorporate each of them. This is funny. I thought the CC was length of track. I didn’t want to be restarting race soon, so I selected 200 CC.. at 50 I won several races. So fun off to good start now.

I don't believe for one minute that an 80 year old guy signed up for a Nintendolife account and came to the forums to post a question. You figured out that much but can't figure out 50cc from 200cc?If I'm wrong then fair play to ye ol' chap. Keep on keeping on and beware of those pesky blue shells.

@OorWullie To be fair it would be a very strange thing to lie about.

Lol. Yeah, Mario Kart 8 DX's a little tricky. Although nowadays I only struggle with the game's Rainbow Road (the current one, not the N64 or SNES one). The beginning of that track is really hard to drift without falling off. I never had this issue on Mario Kart 8 U even though I used the same character, bike, and tires. Very strange.

Learn to nod and glare while ripping deadly drifts through hearts or eat some dust, old man. Mario Kart is much deeper and much crueler than you could've imagined. Also rep a joycon wheel for max respect.

@OorWullie Knowing internet ethos, he is likely in his 50s, right? Everything is exaggerated out here and everyone feels alienated, isolated, and empowered. So being 50 on this board becomes 80, likewise I'm 33 and feel 50 (note the nicely rounded #s). Try not to think about it too much and just have empathy for fellow man. All us whackos.

You boys caught me! My bad !! Actually I’m not 80. Not until August 18 anyway. Thought I was close enough to take credit. I bought a switch controller Pro yesterday. I’m in it to win it. It’s been fun. Dan

@Danb If you really get into it, you should check out the "adult Switch gamers" thread here. Lots of friendly chatter between folks who are a little older than your average Switch player. Actually the latest talk there is about hooking up for some Mario Kart this week.

what do the 50cc - 200cc things mean anyway?

Not everyone knows about these technical terms.

idk the technical but it's just how fast your car can go at max speed.

I used to think it was just the difficulty of the cpu's you verse. pretty confusing.

@Danb I believe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also has some "Steering Assist" and other features that make the game easier to play (in 50cc at least). Its mainly to allow very young children to play and not crash or drive off the track constantly (basically give's the impression of playing well, which can be golden for a young child [within reason]) but it can also be used to ease in someone one if they are completely new at the game with no similar experience.

Thanks for replies I have some good help already. I’m going to look at the adult switch gamers thread too. I would love to be involved in that. I have plenty of time to play. Peace and love ! Dan
