As a big fan of Shovel Knight, I'm really looking forward to Showdown.

Here's what we currently know about the game:

  • 16+ playable characters
  • A Story Mode for each playable character
  • Up to 4 players at once
  • Battling AI opponents is possible
  • Different game modes: Showdown, Gem Clash,...
  • Many different stages based on the four campaigns + some new ones
  • Practice Mode
  • New soundtrack by Jake "Virt" Kaufman

Confirmed playable characters (13):

  • Shovel Knight
  • Dark Knight
  • Shield Knight
  • The Enchantress
  • Plague Knight
  • Specter Knight
  • King Knight
  • Propeller Knight
  • Mole Knight
  • Polar Knight
  • Tinker Knight
  • Treasure Knight
  • Goldarmor

So, who else is excited about this game? Any character in particular you'd like to see added to the roster?
I'd personally like to see the Wandering Travelers added, especially Reize Seatlan.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to Showdown more than Smash Bros Ultimate.
I know that's kinda crazy, but hey... April 2019 can't come soon enough for me!

It's very impressive that Yacht Club is offering all this for free for people who've bought Treasure Trove. Makes me wonder whether they'll actually make a profit on it (I know there's a standalone paid version too but I can't imagine many people buying that when Treasure Trove is available). Anyway, Shovel Knight's existing expansions are terrific so I'm looking forward to Showdown (and King of Cards).

Last I heard they sold 2 million copies of the game worldwide. I also know they spend $1M on Plague of Shadows and $1.5M on Specter of Torment. I'm not sure they're making much profit either, which would be a real shame, but at least they're doing good enough to continue expanding the game.
One thing's for sure though: they've earned my trust.

I love Yacht club for the same reason above. And holy crap, what an awesome game that keeps giving. The Showdown like Smash looks incredibly fun!!! I can't wait to try out Shield Knight and the Polar Knight. Mona would be a fun character addition, even tho she isn't a knight or fight in plague knight. I would also like to see a town level with the silly npc's getting in the way. I'd also love to see the 'hub castle' in Specter become a stage with included warping, rails to grind/use, minions running around and ofcourse cats.

Not to be off topic, but I would love to see the next game in the series become a 1-4 player side scrolling beat'em up with an upgrade to 16 bit graphics/arcade style with decently sizable sprites. Something in spirit of the D&D arcade, golden axe or even Sega Saturns Guardian Heroes. Plus an upgraded real time instrumental soundtrack would be tasty beyond belief.

Regardless of what is next, it is highly unlikely that it will disappoint.

Mona could be a fun addition to Showdown but I doubt she'll be included.

As for their next game. I'd like Yacht Club Games to remain in the Shovel Knight Universe but mix up the gameplay by making a 2D 16-bit Zelda-like instead. Imagine the world of Shovel Knight from a top-down perspective with Shovel Knight finding new relics (and some returning ones) in dungeons to beat bosses and get further into the game. They could also add multiple playable characters this way, including Shield Knight.
But whatever Yacht Club Games decides to do next, they've got my support.

Last night, I was thinking about the possibility of a guest character in Showdown and my mind went straight to The Messenger.
I hope they'll stick with one or two guests though. Don't want this to be the next Smash Bros. In fact, I'd prefer no guests over a ton of them.

Anyone you guys and girls are hoping for?
