Topic: Should Nintendo release more 'Deluxe' games on Switch?

I was wondering what everyone thought about Nintendo doing more 'Deluxe' games for the switch as they did with Mario Kart 8?

I bought neither the Wii nor the Wii U so i feel that if they did re-release certain games for example a deluxe version of Mario Maker or Super Mario 3d World it would be an awesome addition to the current Switch catalogue.

What do others feel think about this, especially those who already owned these games on Wii & Wii U??

I don't think it should exclusively run to Wii U games. Sure, most likely Smash deluxe is on it's way and deluxe games can follow a new dlc route, but I would also like to see, for example, Star Fox Deluxe. The Snes game, running at 60 fps. I would like to see games ala Wonder Boy Dragons Trap with a HD toggle. There are so many ways to add value to games these days.

Nintendo's AAA new games take years to make. A deluxe series would be a great way to bulk up releases (especially for the new gamers joining at Switch).

Yes, this is my point exactly!

@shaneoh Only releasing new games results in lengthy periods without games being released. Breath of the Wild wouldn't be released on Switch if you had your way as its not a new game; it's a port of a Wii U game.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

It was a dual release with the Wii U, it's not the same as porting MK8 several years later. There are still going to be droughts for those of us who aren't purchasing these "deluxe editions" because we already have them. If people want Wii U games, they should have bought a Wii U, I bought a switch for NEW gaming experiences.

@shaneoh "If people want Wii U games, they should have bought a Wii U" That is a very poor argument. Sony released games like Last of Us and the Uncharted Collection for the PS4 for the same reason Nintendo released Mario Kart 8 and likely Smash Bros for the Switch - millions of people never owned either company's previous hardware. Therefore for many of others, this is a NEW gaming experience.

A lot of people didn't even know the Wii U existed, or what it was whereas everyone knows about the Switch and as initial sales show, people want it.

Many people didn't own an N64, doesn't mean they need to release its catalogue on the Gamecube, even if it would have been a new experience for them. Many people didn't own a Gamecube, doesn't mean they need to port the games to the Wii, and so on. They may be a new gaming experience for some, but for others they aren't, whereas a new game is a new experience for everyone.

The fact Mario Kart 8 is now truly portable makes it a new gaming experience!

There's other factors that make Wii U ports a better idea, such as the increase in time and money required for developing games and that handheld gaming has caught up with console. It's simply much more economical to port a game now than it would've back then, the extra 40 million non-Wii U owners is simply too hard for Nintendo to pass up.

I think Mario Kart, Smash, Super Mario Maker and Pokken having the Deluxe approach would be the best option (former already exists). The rest of the franchises should be new games supported by standard ports or VC if need be (e.g. Pikmin Trilogy supporting Pikmin 4).

@shaneoh I agree it's the same game. I disagree it would be the same experience.

Nintendo need to sell 40 million Switch units to non-Wii U owners first. I'm not saying it isn't cheaper to port, I'm saying it's not very entertaining having old games resold to us as a major release. As I said, a new game is new for everyone.

Convenience doesn't make for a new experience

@shaneoh I agree about convenience. Erm, ambience, atmosphere and (maybe - I'm not sold on this myself) fidelity do though

I'm not very excited by the idea of a deluxe version of games I already own but it makes sense to attract casual gamers who didn't buy a Wii U. Plus it boosts the Switch's release schedule and it's probably more cost effective to port over a game than create a new one.

I think apart from Smash Bros and Pokken Tournament there's really not to many games that could have deluxe versions.

Shovel Knight, Mario Maker and Hyrule Warriors maybe? But I'm aware they're all already on 3DS and Wii U.
