Wii = Wii + Gamecube
Wii U = Wii U + Wii
NDS = NDS + GBA
NDSi = NDSi + NDS
3DS = 3DS + NDSi + NDS
Solution for your question = DON'T Sell your Wii U, instead buy Switch and you will have Two machines at home. There is Nothing wrong to have so many Nintendo machines at home. I have NDS Lite, Older 3DS XL, New 3DS XL, Wii & Wii U machine to play NDS, 3DS, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U. I have some Switch games but haven't bought the machine yet, will buy on December 2017.
@Anti-Matter
I didn't really need help but in any case, here are the Nintendo consoles I still have and why:
SNES: Plays my SNES games OG GB: No practical reason to still have it
GB Color: Best console for GB games, only console I have for GBC games
DSLite: Best console for DS games, only console I have for GBA games (if I had any) Wii: Only console I have for GC games (if I had any)
Wii U: Best console for Wii games, only console I have for Wii U games OG 3DS: No practical reason to still have it
3DS XL: Best console for 3DS games
Switch: Switch games
My point was that I could sell the consoles I've put in bold and I wouldn't lose much. But I'd never sell the others because I'd be selling the best console to play some of the games I have on.
No way I would ever sell my Wii U and games. IMO it would be the modern day equivalent of selling a Sega Saturn and to a slightly lesser extent the Dreamcast. Little money for something that if you want to revisit in years to come will cost you an absolute fortune.
I actually really enjoy having my Switch and Wii U side by side, as I look at them as two completely different consoles with a completely different library of games.
To me it's like having a SNES and an N64 next to each other. The same but still completely different lol.
@skywake Wii has extra bonuses too for keeping, like doing certain things in Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (GC) unlocks certain things in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn (Wii) if you use that save data.
Wii U has backwards compatibility and Virtual Console plus some Wii U games that probably won't be ported to Switch. Everyone should keep their Wii Us, it's much more value than Switch, at least now.
And besides, who knows, since the Wii U didn't do too well, maybe in the future, some games (Especially some that got a Nintendo select version later on) might be worth a lot.
