Please, don't sell your precious Wii U.
Keep all your stuffs or you will regret after you sold them.
Wii U and Switch are Two Different things.

@Samus7Killer Yeah tell that to someone who spends years working on a game by themselves. They are as much as a game as any of your AAA titles.

I think the best advice has already been given.

I I love the Wii U but the Switch is a far better console, and at the rate it's racking up awesome games, I think it just might have the Wii U beat within its first year. Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, MHXX, Mario Odyssey, Pokken Tournament, Ultra Street Fighter II, Fire Emblem Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, either Yoshi or Kirby (or both) will be out by end of 1st year... and all of them can be played as console, handheld or portable console fashion which makes even the Wii U ports 3X as valuable.

Even so, there will always be some games that never come to Switch, and if you ever want to play those games you're going to want to hang onto that system. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and Xenoblade X might never see a Switch release. New Super Mario Bros U and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will surely never see a Switch release. And the Wii games won't ever play on Switch (it's up in the air as to whether we'll see those sold as a virtual console). And a little modification can enable your GameCube games to be played in 1080p with a Pro Controller.

Personally, I would find another way. There's always another way without sacrificing one of your consoles. If I absolutely had to choose, then of course I would rather have a Switch than a Wii U, but I'd really recommend having both if possible.

@AlternateButtons I think that when people say "Switch doesn't have very many games/as many games as Wii U" they're talking largely about first-party games. It's not that Switch doesn't have a good library, it's that the console is still in its early days and most of what's there is an assortment of indies and third-party titles, not the Nintendo titles most people here are looking for. Wii U obviously has more of those because it has the benefit of four years of Nintendo developing games for it.

And I will play it again on Switch version despite of being E-Shop form.
That game is So Real Fun.

I traded in my Wii U and all it's games for a Switch. I have no regrets. It was the right choice for me. Sure the Wii U had loads of great games, but I'd played them all as much as I wanted to. I'm sure there will be times that I'd like to revisit some of those Wii U games, but I'm someone that likes to keep moving on. I love the portability of Switch. It's allowed me to put hours of gameplay into BoTW that I would never have been able to on the Wii U version. As a console, Switch is extremely young but it's already got some really great games. More big games are coming and will continue to come. Wii U was never a sales success, and look how Nintendo supported it - with some of the best games of the generation. I'm sure Switch will be treated just as fairly.

Portal Knights is getting a physical release on Switch too.

Is the Switch worth getting at this point? Most definitely. Unless you are someone who just spends all their time playing games or have a select type of games that you prefer, there is already plenty on the system that should keep you busy for ages.

Is it worth selling an old console over? In my opinion, no. Just like others, I have regrets of my SNES and N64 being traded in to get a new system in return. Maybe it would be worth it for you, but I would definitely weigh your pros and cons pretty heavily. As mentioned above, in the future there will be even less Wii U consoles in the wild than other systems, so if you ever wanted to return to it, it might be extremely hard to do so.

I'd say no, the only consoles worth selling are when you're getting an upgrade console (e.g. upgrading from a 3DS to a better 3DS, Xbox One to Xbox One X, PS4 to PS4 Pro). Stuff like going from an older gen to a newer gen is a definite no for selling the old console!

AAAAAAAGGHH.....!!!!!
Thank you so much for the clarification !
Man.... I have to wait another 6 months for Physical release.
While waiting, I can buy the e-shop version first, and then continued by Physical version.

@Anti-Matter That's the good thing about Switch compared with other cartridge systems. Your save data is on the console itself irrelevant of whether you play physical or digital versions of games rather than the save data for physical games being on the cartridge.

The only reason I'd ever sell my old consoles was if the new console could play all the old games. No reason to have a Wii if I have a Wii U, no reason to own a 3DS if I have a 3DSXL. But even then I generally don't but it'd still make a lot of sense.

If it's a choice of Switch vs. Wii U get a Switch. If it's a question of whether the Switch is worth getting then yes it is. And if you were to ask me if you should get a Wii U now I'd say no. But I wouldn't sell my Wii U and collection of games just to get a Switch
