Out of nowhere, today the atmospheric first person touchscreen-RPG "SEVERED" from DrinkBox Studios (of Guacamelee fame) appeard on the Switch eShop for 14,99€.
It was a great game on Wii U and 3DS.
How's it playing on a single screen though?
I went on the store to download it after I saw the trailer pop up in my subscriptions, but it wasn't up yet. I'm quite excited to try Severed out on its intended platform type — obviously I didn't want to buy a Vita just for this, Gravity Rush, and Persona 4G. Similarly, I didn't want to try the 3DS version after getting it on iOS, but having the game on Switch sounds perfect. I need some reason to pick up the thing while Stardew Valley still lacks a release date after all.
I really like Severed's character art, although some of the dungeon environments can feel repetitive. It plays like Skyward Sword with the responsive controls of Fruit Ninja, if that makes any sense.
Insta-buy! I missed it on Vita so I'm glad to get a second chance on the Switch. I heard it was pretty good. Drinkbox are the same guys who made Guaccamelee so my expectations are fairly high.
It's an awesome game. Fantastic art design, fun dungeon exploration, and a really well-designed combat system. Also, it plays fine on a single-screen device. It was originally designed to run on a single-screen device, after all.
