Hello, well my partner and I just got this yesterday for our respective switch consoles and I can say that it is really good fun. We have enjoyed working together to get 3 stars on each level, which gets increasingly harder as you progress. I’m not a fan usually of these types of games but have to admit I enjoy it.

So I just took a leap of faith on it last night for a dinner party with the wife. The controls are pretty much super simplified for even the newest to games can understand it (like removing the "A" and "B" button with just button placement cross-referencing.

The game immediately gives you some forgiving goals to reach early on, so it would allow your girls to understand it quickly and possibly form a communication understanding before the levels start to really test your cooperation. The DLC is already ready to be accessed right from the get go, also unlocks a lot of different chefs as you move along (which also unlocks the competitive modes as well).

Overall, the game is definitely something worth the 20 bucks if you're game for simplicity in a gathered setting. If this was more for single player experiences I would motion to proceed with caution.

I ended up buying it on Friday since I don't really have much co-op games on the switch that me and my girlfriend can play on a "equal" level.

Communication is key to winning since something you can make a plan going in with each person doing a particular role, yet something can happen in the stage that force you to make changes on the spot. It's definitely not a silent teamwork game.

It does get harder in a heartbeat depending on what stage you're playing. We been stuck on level 3-2 for over 30mins due to how the table shifts in a divided stage, changing who can do what.

Overall it's a good simple game to play with other. Got us thinking and talking of different ways to beat the stage while playing. It does get overwhelming with the chaos going on but I think it's part of the fun.

My only hang up so far is that the controls feel too loose to me in the case you can end up picking up or dropping items in places you didn't mean to that are right next to each other. Also getting 3 stars in some stages seems near impossible with the point requirement, but I just think it's our personal skill levels that gets in the way of that.

Btw, the point requirements increase with each player, so 100 points in one stage for a three-star with one player will become 300 points with four players.

Edit: To clarify on the loose controls part, I meant to say that movements is only one speed, fast. No way to slightly tilt the analog thumbstick to move slower.

Yeah I'm going to wait on patch... can someone say if the framerate is really bad? But I need a local co-op game to play right now. I want something new to play with the kids.

I got Overcooked last weekend - so far we've played it 5 times and had a lot of fun each time

It's a very charming game unlike any couch co-op title I've ever played really...on the surface, it's quite simple - with accessible controls that even the most casual of players should be able to pick up (2 buttons and a stick) - but, from the moment you get your first order, you'll discover the hidden complexities that make the game so special

With a lot of co-op games each player will either kind of do their own thing, or one player will take control and boss everyone else around - in Overcooked, the beauty is that you're all an equal cog in a machine; each of you will have to work independently, problem solving on-the-fly, whilst also constantly communicating to ensure that everything you're all doing is benefiting the team...when you find that perfect balance together - where you're all perfectly tuned in to the same wavelength - it's a really special feeling ..and when it all goes wrong (which it inevitably will from time-to-time!) it's really, really funny!

I really can't recommend it enough! To me, it really stands out as the best couch co-op game on the Switch! There's plenty of content (plus two bundled DLC packs) ..and there's an extra level of challenge in trying to achieve a '3 star' rating on each level, or trying to beat your previous high score - which adds to the replayability factor too!

Overall, it's a really nice addition to my library - and I can see myself playing time and time again whenever I've got company

@Qwertyninty I wouldn't say that the frame-rate has affected our enjoyment of the game at all really - it could run smoother in places, but it hasn't had any jarring stutters or anything - the frame-rate seems pretty stable, if a little on the low side, but there haven't been any huge drops or anything that I've noticed...a patch to make the frame-rate buttery smooth throughout would, of course, be welcome - but it's not overly noticeable in all honesty...

I think I only spotted it a little bit here and there because I saw the Digital Foundry video - had I not been looking out for it, I don't know if I'd have noticed at all - my girlfriend and friends didn't...

I got this, took it on holiday with us and ended up playing it a fair bit with my oldest daughter.

Talking about cooking stuff does get less odd looks than cries of cut me, when playing snipperclips.

@Qwertyninty I haven't even noticed the frame-rate drops, though I only play the single-player mode. It's a fun game and a great title to squeeze into half-hour gaming opportunities.

So, how many hours have people put into this game? Is this just a game you play on the odd occassion for 15 minutes, or is it one with a lot of content and fun?

I'm going on a trip for 5 days tomorrow, and I'm thinking of picking this one up. But I'm not sure I can justify £18. Especially as a lot of the time I'll probably be playing single player.

My personal view is this is very much a local multiplayer game, much like snipperclips you can play is single player but it loses much when you do.

@Pigeon Yeah, I can second what @mav-i-am said - even though you can play it single-player, I'm treating it exclusively as a co-op game...you'll still get the problem solving element playing solo, but much of what makes the game fun revolves around how you and your friends/family interact with each other when playing as a team.

In terms of game length, I can't really say at the moment - after 5ish hours, I still haven't unlocked all of the main levels, or tried any of the bundled DLC content - mostly because I'm playing with different people each time so it's easier just to start from the beginning...it does seem like one of those games - a bit like New Super Mario Bros - where you can keep coming back again and again, just starting at level 1-1 and working your way through. I'll have to see if I still feel the same after 20+ hours, but the base concept keeps pulling me back in - and the challenge of trying to pass with a '3 star' rating, or even just beating a high score, adds an extra incentive too...certainly can't see myself growing tired of it any time soon - but, yeah, there are probably better options if you're looking for a mostly single-player game.

This might be my 10 year old daughter's favorite co-op game. I like it too, so the appeal is pretty ageless. If I didn't know it had frame-rate problems I don't think I would have noticed, although we only do local co-op (I understand the frame-rate problem is mostly in single player). I've never even tried the single player mode and don't plan to. The game is all about controlling chaos. Each scenario demands a different approach and it pays to plan a strategy--but you must also be ready to improvise on the fly. My wife doesn't like it because the flavor of "stress" it invokes is way too much like real life. I know exactly what she means, but it remains enjoyable for me in 10 to 15 minute bursts--whereupon (unlike real life), I can just walk away. That's got to be worth something. Control-wise the game does leave something to be desired. It can sometimes be a struggle getting your character to face the right direction to perform an action, and you can't pick-up items from the inside corner of a counter that would be simple to reach in real life. These two things (the first especially) can add a level of clumsiness to the game that frustratingly interrupts momentum and steals precious seconds. I give it a 7 out of 10, and an 8 out of 10 if the control issues could be addressed.

Hi guys! I've been following Nintendolife for years, this is my first post.
Quick question: do you know if the version 1.0.1 is the patched one? I'm not sure if my console downloaded the update while on stand by. I tried the game one hour ago but I don't see real improvements.

CroRock

Select game from home screen, then press + and ther will be option "check for update" or something like that.
Today I started Splatoon 2 and when I wanted to join lobby for multiplayer it said "new version available"
So there's a chance it didn't download automatically for you like in my case
