I recently found out that Space Harrier was coming to the Sega Ages collection on Switch. This game brings back much nostalgia for me, as I used to play it with my dad in the arcade and on Sega Master System. This is the first time I've heard about the Sega Ages collection and have been trying to find out more info on it; specifically Space Harrier on Switch and if it's going to be an NA release or JP only. Anyone one have more detailed info to refer to?

@Introspect There will be 15 releases initially, so far the announced titles are

Sonic the Hedgehog (Megadrive & Arcade version)
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Mastersytem)
Phantasy Star (Master System)
Gain Ground (Arcade)
Thunderforce IV (Megadrive with Saturn extras)
Space Harrier (Arcade)

Each release will have extras added, possibly extra modes, online leaderboards etc. Gain Ground can be played in TATE mode.

Sonic and TFIV were supposed to release in Japan the end of last month but they were delayed until September. SEGA have already confirmed they will arrive in the west soon after. They also said if this initial batch are successful then they will consider Saturn and Dreamcast games. Supposedly they will release 2 titles per month.

Just read earlier that they have "major" news regarding the AGES line to announce at the Tokyo Game Show on 22nd September. I'm hoping for Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder and an HD version of 3D Classics Outrun . M2 rebuilt Outrun arcade, doubled the framerate and added wide-screen. Would be amazing to have that on Swifch and I'd say there's a good chance it will be one of the initial batch.

I'm hoping the "major" news includes Sonic 2 with Hidden Palace Zone (currently only in the mobile port) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles finally comes (music licensing is hard).

If these Sega Ages games sell well enough Sega might eventually bring Saturn or Dreamcast games to the Switch through Sega Ages. Unfortunately, all Sega has done is make me exceedingly upset. Which is due to the decision of not porting the Sega Genesis Classics to the Switch. So instead of $40 for 50+ classic Genesis games, Switch owners get to pay $8 per game.

Bad form, Sega.

I hope we see Super Monkey Ball. M2 port with extra features would be a dream!

@Magician The only games I hear people want from the Sega Saturn are the Panza Dragoon games which apparently they no longer have the source code for. Apart from that is there any games worth bothering with from that system?

@OorWullie I'd be all over Outrun on switch. A must have for gamers of all generations.

There are a handful of Saturn exclusives you could find on just about any online top-10 list.

Dragon Force, Shining Force III, Nights Into Dreams, Burning Rangers, Daytona USA, etc.

@OorWullie Thanks for that info! If they consider Dreamcast games, Shenmue would be an amazing addition. I think that would adapt nicely to Switch.

@Introspect They really should have just ported the Shemnue I & II Remasters like the other consoles have.

@Magician I never knew the Saturn had so many exclusives. But it is good to hear that should Sega consider porting games over, there is a decent selection to choose from.

Sega Rally, Daytona USA, Power Stone 1 and 2, Shining Force, so many great games in segas vault. While I'm not particularly interested in what they've announced so far I have no problem with buying a couple as support to see if we can get into their newer catalog as well. Wish they would go the Netflix/Game Pass route personally but this is better than nothing!

I'm beginning to cool off, be...less upset about Sega not porting Sega Genesis Classics collection to the Switch. I wonder if this means there's a possibility of Sega releasing volumes of these releases physically down the road? I like the idea. I'm not excited about spending $8 per game digitally. Conversely, I wouldn't hesitate to spend $30-$40 per volume of five Genesis games physically.

looks great.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Is anyone loving the drop dash move in Sonic? I certainly am. So many little places where I used to have no momentum and now I just scoot along. I’ve noticed as well that it’s slightly different than Mania’s drop dash, a bit snappier among other things
