It just occurred to me that a Switch port wouldn't be able to accommodate touch-screen gameplay when docked (as the game supported 5 players in this way in the original Wii U release), but I suppose a fifth player could wield a single Joy-Con and use it as a cursor in lieu of touchscreen a la Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
See also: Star Fox Grand Prix (lol). He's gotten some things right, but I have my doubts. Surely if there was another big game coming out this year, they would have announced it at E3 or back when their stock price was falling and they had no other Real News to report. The only way a "surprise game" would make sense is if it was somehow tied to the launch of the subscription fee.
All the courses and characters from Mario and Luigi U will be here in one Switch cart. Plus a newcomer Toadette which upon powering up can become Peachette..okay?...which can double jump, desend slowly and is a safety net if you fall from a pit.
welp looks like holiday 2018 is well in hand. New smash, huge "new super mario bros" game and you still have the previous 3d mario and zelda ready to go. Hits the new folks, families, nostalgia folks and fans of the series in general.

I've only played Mario U, but not Luigi U. I don't think I'll be picking up this one, but I do recommend it for those itching for some 2D Mario. NSMBU definitely has its fun moments.
Luigi U is underrated in my opinion, but if you already have NSMB U you're better off just buying it off the eShop than paying full price for the deluxe edition.
I don't like to be cynical but I have to admit, the cynicism and indifference I've seen towards this makes me feel almost vindicated. Like to me, 2009 will always be the year when all hardcore gamers hated on every good original IP released on a Nintendo platform. And at the end of that year, when genuine masterpieces like Little King's Story and Muramasa were ignored by nearly everyone so that they could play...nothing on the Wii they spent money on, everyone instead bought New Super Mario Bros again. Except it had (admittedly good) co-op, so LET'S SELL ALL THE COPIES!!1!! NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS! ORIGINALITY IS OVERRATED! And then they release three more of NSMB again, in one year. I thought, this is it. Wii sold so much better than even Galaxy, this is all they need to do apparently. Like the most innovative thing Nintendo did with Mario at this time was ruin Paper Mario.
So I can't tell you how happy it is that any interesting game can sell super well on the Switch with a bit of marketing and luck, while everyone rolls their eyes at this port of a game in a series that we've mostly just moved on from. And the best part is, I don't feel like I'm even being rude towards fans of these games. Because it's totally fine that a port of this exist, because it's not developers spending time making a new game, and we'll get a ton new levels with this type of gameplay when Switch inevitably gets a Mario Maker release anyway. So, everyone wins!
I'm one of the few (well, 8 million) Wii U owners who hasn't played this game (I didn't tend to buy many new games at the time it was released), so I'm well up for giving it a go on Switch
If they had added something more to it to really make it worthy of the "Deluxe" name, then I would be excited. Or at least sell it at a cheaper price, but for now I am passing.

@FragRed I did double dip on tropical freeze and that’s a great game but if you still have the Wii u and played it, I don’t see the point considering this and Donkey Kong new on the Wii u sell for 15.99
If they added waluigi and Wario and extra modes I would of got it
@1UP_MARIO Yeah I double dipped on Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze too, but that game is, personally, far better than New Super Mario Bros U. I think a lot of that is due to the fact I want something new and different for the series to regain my interests.

@1UP_MARIO I should have bought a second Wii U when Tesco were selling them off at discount prices to rid of old stock. I loved my Wii U, bought it day one (the Zombi U edition which I actually really liked).
