@Nicolai I'm speaking mostly in terms of their Mario games. They all share a universe to an extent, and that extent used to include the ideas of the day. Now they just include the Mario Tennis characters, Rosalina, the koopa kids, and nothing ever changes.
I hope this isn't true. I thought the release of Rayman Origins meant they were finally burying the poor creatures for good.
I know this will sound pessimistic, but not a fan of the direction they are taking the Mario RPGs recently. There's nothing original anymore, it's just regular Mario enemies, koopalings, toads and more toads.

@Nicolai I was speaking more about the direction the thread was going at the time. Nothing wrong with what you did, I've just seen tons of these threads, and how people get so caught up on the idea of "if its true" that some of them seem to forget it was just an unsubstantiated rumor. This was one of those cases where I felt I had to speak up because of how rediculous the rumor is in the first place.
That's true but rumor websites tend to build up credibility for a reason, this game seems odd and unlikely, but Ubisoft is well known for letting things related to console launches leak.
I wonder if this a Mario/Rayman RPG that the rabbids may show up in.
WAT!

@Vinny In one sentence you say you hope this isn't true and the next say there's nothing original in Mario RPG's anymore, just the same characters.Surely the addition of Rabbids will mix it up a bit?
I really hope this is true,2 huge developers working together on a major title for the first time.I'm sure it'll be something special.

Well, Paper Jam was supposed to be a crossover but Paper Mario was basically just a guest character in that game. There's isn't much of anything from Paper Mario in PJ.
In this new game, they could just throw some rabbids here and there, then have koopalings, toads, and then Bowser as the final boss as they've been doing for a while.

@Vinny Well, the rumour suggests Yoshi will be a primary character and there will be a playable Rabbid. Also Ubisoft are developing the game under the watchful eye of Nintendo,so it seems like it'll be its own thing away from the usual Mario RPG's.

Not for any good reasons, though. News venues are already deeply incentivised to lie through their teeth so long as it gives them more attention and/or things to talk about. That's why citeable sources in journalism exist in the first place - to mitigate that as much as possible. Just because a rumor site gets it right some of the time doesn't make them a credible source, because getting caught in a lie only once or twice should be all it takes to ruin that credibility.

I'm all for switching things up a bit, but surely there were better options? It's like deciding that the Legend of Zelda needs to be a god-mode hack 'n' slash game. Oh wait...
Well, I guess if I was honest with myself, I would prefer Nintendo try something like this rather than them making New Super Mario Bros U.2. I don't have to buy it if I don't like it, after all.
I agree,Rabbids would be way down on my list of possible crossovers I'd like to see,in fact I've never even played a Rabbids game but have found them annoying what little I've seen of them.I'm a big fan of Rayman though and I like to think he'll feature in a Nintendo/Ubisoft crossover.Yoshi being a primary character is plus. The fact it's not a minigame collection ala Sonic & Mario and is being treated as a major release has me pretty excited to see how it turns out. Then again, none of this might even be true haha.
Well I imagine people said a weird Super Mario and Final Fantasy themed RPG crossover was weird at one point too...don't count something out because it sounds stupid. I mean there are high selling games about a cast of heroes who run their mouths and kill each other for reasons, and plants beating up zombies because its a video game.

@BLP_Software: Well put. Maybe someone at Ubisoft or Nintendo had a brilliant gameplay idea, and it just so happened that Mario and Rabbids was the perfect way to market it for some reason. I had a similar reaction to Kingdom Hearts in the past, and that's one of the world's most beloved franchises now.
This is actually the first time I've heard about Super Mario RPG's connection to Final Fantasy. The more you know, I guess.
And Plants vs Zombies was awesome. At least, the tower defense game was. And I'm not even that big of a fan of zombies.
And any Mario RPG I'm definitely interested in. If it's got Mario and it you know they're going to monitor it for quality. This could be one of the best surprises of the NX launch.

I'm quite excited for this, actually. I love both the Mario series and Rabbids, and I'm also a fan of the Mario RPG's. I hope the rumor is true, and hopefully the game won't disappoint!
@kkslider5552000: Here's a crazy idea: Some mega conglomerate crossover between all of Nintendo's forgotten franchises. Metroid-Zero: Earthbound-Kong Racing Advance Tropics.
